Bribes, corruption and bullshit to be honest. Russia and Qatar were the two worst choices in both those running for 2018 and 2022. It's ridiculous.

True fact: Qatar is smaller than Wales and the English county (think of a county as being like an American state) of Yorkshire. That shows what a shocking decision this is. I now doubt highly if I will ever see a World Cup in my country, thanks to the corrupt, greedy scum at FIFA. I'm not sure how I can describe how big a legacy (yes, FIFA, there would have been a legacy left here as well). It really could turn around the state of youth football which at the moment is in a poor condition because of various reasons, the country would go absolutely crazy with excitement and pride like at Euro 96 as we really love these things. The country's economy would have £3billion pumped into it which would be the most out of all the 2018 bids and would have been amazing for us. England really did have the best bid, it was excellent. Even FIFA said we had the best technical bid out of the 2018 bids, while Russia came last FFS. Fuck 'em, they can shove their World Cup where it hurts. I certainly won't be hauling myself to fucking Russia or Qatar to watch their Mickey Mouse cup. I hope the English media really destroys them over these corruption things.

Qatar is the size of the Sydney metropolitan area. Not really a country. 11,000km2. The only reason they got it is because of huge amounts of money chucked at it.

Russia is a good choice if you ask me, they are a good soccer nation, and despite being almost 1500 times bigger then Qatar, if they have a good orginisation system, for example having group games in Asian Russia, then sending the knock outs to European Russia, after a good 2-3 day lay off, should be fine.

The head of the England campaign to host the 2018 World Cup today said there is no point in the country bidding for the tournament again until Fifa makes extensive changes to its voting process.

Andy Anson revealed his frustrations surrounding yesterday’s humiliating defeat to Russia as it emerged the winning team knew what Fifa's decision would be 24 hours before it was announced.
He said: 'I would say right now, don’t bother until you know that the process is going to change to allow bids like ours to win.'

England's £15million bid – spearheaded by David *Cameron, Prince William and David Beckham – didn’t even get past the first round.

It secured just two of the 22 votes by committee members of football’s world governing body Fifa in a secret ballot – one of which was cast by England’s own FA chairman Geoff Thompson.

Qatar has less people in it than many major cities. Its infrastructure for the World Cup will be entirely built for it and then dismantled after. Logistics are already a concern. Qatar was a horrible choice - the fact that it's in the Middle East makes it even worse, because the Middle East as a whole only has ~350 million people; it's not like they picked some small state in the middle of a massive population agglomeration.

The only good reason to pick Qatar is it hasn't hosted one before. Every other criterion shows Qatar to be a horrible choice, and it's a real shame it was chosen.

Football can not be played in 40 degrees centigrade, players can not train in those temperatures. There is no fan base in Qatar, there is insufficient infrastructure to suppport the world cup. There are nowhere near enough hotel rooms to provide for travelling fans. It is a ludicrous choice.

When there's a bunch of reasons not to choose something, you don't choose it, unless there's some other good reasons to do so. What are those? That it hasn't had the World Cup before? That isn't enough.

i was reading up on this and Qatar gets to be 130F in the summer time. so they have to build all indoor stadiums and they will be real small. that decision was a joke.
and Russia was another joke, they have no modern soccer stadiums, they also have to make a ton of new ones.
the US shouldve got it for 2022, it would've really boost the popularity for the sport here.
