I just got my new laptop today, its got a 100gb hard disk in two 50gb partitions, the thing is, they are both showing as FAT32 file systems, on my old laptop, and all the other computers i have used with XP, they have al been NTFS, is there any difference?

I am not sure as to the technical diffrences, but FAT32 is used by older vertions of windows, and NTFS is the new file system used by the newer vertions of windows.
Here (http://www.theeldergeek.com/ntfs_or_fat32_file_system.htm) is a comparison of Fat32 and NTFS that may help you understand better.

Thanks for that, ive converted both partitions now, i just went into:

Start > Run > cmd > Enter > convert.exe C: /fs:ntfs

..I just noticed this because i installed Norton System Works and tried running Norton Speed Disk and it siad something about it biong FAT32, but its all on NTFS now so all good :)

Yep, there are some good advantages to NTFS too (besides the increased performance), such as encryption and redundancy security with RAID. :)

Eh.. wish I saw this thread earilier :|
