View Full Version : Mom becoming a total fascist

So, I think my mom is becoming a complete fascist at the moment. So, this is the deal. My mom got my big bro a PS1 for a birthday present when he was like 13. Now, my big bro lives in his own house these days, but my mom is trying to make him give back the PS1 and all the games, so he can sell them to someone at her workplace. She's not trying to get the money because of financial problems or anything, she just wants to sell it to her workbuddy.
Well, right now my mother is raging at all of us because he wont give it.

Ofc she has all the power over the PS1 as she paid for it, but I think it's just completely bitchy and fascistic to do something like that. Come on, it's a birthday present. It has a certain sentimental value, ffs...

With the greatest respect, this isn't fascism. It has nothing to do with fascism. I don't know what the word is you're looking for, but that isn't it. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fascist Anyway if you get someone a present you give it to them, you can't turn around and say you want it back. It's theirs.

Unfortunately there's no telling some people that, if I were you I wouldn't get involved. If you can get your brother to, just ask him to give it to her. I doubt he wants it all that much and it might as well just be settled quickly rather than letting it turn into a bigger problem than it need be.

You do know what I mean with "fascism", don't you?

No idea.

I do believe the definition he's using is "Dictatorial movement". As defined here: http://www.bing.com/Dictionary/search?q=define+fascism&FORM=DTPDIA

@the OP: As Jon said, I'd stay out of it. Let the whole mess blow over.
Who the hell even wants a PS1 now-a-days anyway?

Well technically, a PS1 shouldn't worth over 5 dollars or something, unless it is counted as an ancient artifact

These things do have sentimental value when you've had them for so long.I know i was bummed when my collection of gfx cards started being given away for random pc's, it was like watching pc history move going over them :). So i wouldn't give it back if i were him either -> get a random one off ebay if you want one... but i suppose at some point it's not worth arguing over.
It's up to how serious you mom really is about it

And i agree with everyone you should try not to get involved as much as you can even if it's silly

I hate to say the same thing as everyone else, but perhaps our strength in numbers will convince you to stay out of it! xD

In all seriousness though, you're absolutely right. The PS1 or whatever the fuck it is, (I don't understand you video game people) has an incredible amount of sentimental value - not only was it a gift, it was a gift he no doubt used a lot and had many memories on.

Regardless, its between him and your mom. Getting involved is just gonna make shit messier. Unless of course they ask for your opinion which I can tell you now they won't xD

You don't understand " Us video game people " ? We are talking about PS1, it doesn't include video gaming people, it was something everyone had :D

nope. I wasn't really into video games as a kid xD Whenever I hear about 'xboxes' or 'psp's' or 'gameboys' I don't know WHAT the hell people are talking about xD I'm technologically illiterate basically :/ I totally respect gamers, I just don't understand the whole subculture stuff and all the lingo xD

But anyways, back to the purpose of this thread, I reiterate what I stood by in my last post which is: I think that allowing your brother and mom to resolve this themselves is a good idea.

The original Playstation came out in 1994 and was the first game console to use discs to store the games. The Playstation 2 came out in 2000 and did everything the original Playstation (PS1) did, but better. The Playstation 3 came out in 2006 and continues the technological advancement.

Another option is your brother could always get a Playstation 2 or Playstation 3 which both play original Playstation games. :)

Fascism is an extreme right winged government ideology. I don't think that's what you meant.

Just stay out of it, I'd say.
If you really feel the need to get involved, just tell your mum that you can't give someone a gift and take it off them.
