I used to wipe it up with like old boxers or, occasionally, t-shirts, because they were gonna go in the wash the next morning anyway.. but now I'm realizing how incredibly nasty that seems.. :/

There no right or wrong here - you can do what you like. You can wipe it up, you can let it sit there, you can play with it or rub it around or even eat it.

What happens next, though? If you let it sit there it will tend to liquefy and may then run off. If you're in bed do you mind if it gets on the sheets? If you put clothes on before it is dry it would soak into them. If you let it dry and then go out to meet people they may smell it. Of course, if the next thing you are going to do is to have a shower it doesn't matter.

Well, if you j/0 in a place your family uses frequently (bathroom, guest room etc) then it is advised to wipe up. Otherwise it might lead to an extremely awkward conversation.
