View Full Version : Cutting in dreams?

I don't consider myself a depressed person. While I am under a bit of stress after my dad had a stroke, and it gets really hard, I can still get out of bed easily.
Now to my main point. The last few nights I have had dreams of self harm, and last night was the worst. I possessed a large, shiny knife and it started cutting my hand. The weird thing was, that I enjoyed it. A lot. I didn't feel pain, only a sweet almost sour feeling that made me smile.
I don't know where this came from, or if this is even the right place to tell, but can anyone just tell me what is happening? Like I said, I don't consider myself depressed. Just a slightly hurt person with everything that is happening with my Dad.
So thanks for reading, and please, if you can, provide me with a possible answer with what is happening to me.

Thoughts that you have drop into your subconscious and that's why you dream what you dream. It's normal. I have lots of dreams about self harm. You're dreams are you visually seeing you're stress go away. Perhaps its the flow of crimson that visually is calming, or just the release itself. If not too personal do you self harm? If not this still wouldn't be strange to dream. I've dreampt I've overdosed on drugs, and I've never taken a drug. If you do self injure it is very common to have these dreams. I suggest watching a comedy, or just getting your thougths to a positve place before you sleep. Focus your mind on the positive thoughts. Perhaps watching a comedy and focusing on that, or reading a book, or listening instrumental music.
I'm sorry that your father had a stroke. *hugs*

Thank you very much :) I think I will try that idea.
But no, I have never done it in real life before. That's why it bugged me so much. And it was so vivid, and won't leave my mind.
Thanks for your reply!

I deal with self harm but have only have 2 dreams regarding it (the second one was last night actually, ironic) the first one was a few months ago, I just got outbid the shower then started cutting my calf then walked back to my room. That was the whole dream. The one I had last night was there was some party and I walked in and I had hundreds of cuts and scars on my arm (Which I don't have really any cuts or scars on my harm in reality) but for some reason I was wearing a short sleeved shirt and this girl who guys to my school (I'm not really her friend or enemy) asked me what they were from then I ran home cryin and put a jacket on then went back and said it was stage makeup for a play. Pretty weird...
