I don't see why it mattes? I know what the hell is wrong with me.
the string of words on my medical records that will probably never go away and may keep me from being allowed to live my life, doesn't mean anything.
I just don't care what the medical babble is.
I want my life back, that's all.
I don't want a million records stating "this one's nuts, don't employ or rent to them"
It's bad enough i have to get at least one. I don't need the 3+ others too.

The only true purpose is for billing your insurance. Other than that, what they call it doesn't really matter.

I know how you feel Kyle, i've often thought the same and is one of many reasons why i've never got help. I guess it's so that doctors can communicate between each other easily and so that they know how to treat you.

Each diagnosis is caused by chemicals in the brain. They need to know what you have, so they can give you the right medication to balance the chemicals. If they didn't give diagnosis', then no one would be getting the right treatment.
I know it's frustrating, it's the main reason I'm so scared of going to the psychiatrist's next week. But I can see why they do it.

But then they treat the diagnosis
Not the problems that caused it.
Not necessarily chemical now is it?
Almost every single one of my mental problems can be somehow traced or related to abuse.
But with the diagnosies, that'll never cross anyones mind.
They could easily be giving the proper treatment if they treated the person for what's going on.

I don't think that is really true. Doctors know the types of things that can cause mental illnesses, also it's the threapists job to really deal with that side of it. The doctors just medicate.

That's not true. A) A good psychiatrist does more than medicate, they counsel as well. B) My psychiatrist/neurologist has only given me one official diagnosis really (Asperger's Syndrome), but has helped with my depression, migraines, etc.

Medication is what they have the main training in though.

A good psychiatrist is just a psychologist who doesn't have to call over to a doctor for a prescription.
