If you self harm so the point where you have trouble stopping, do you have mental health problems? I'd assume so but i never really thought about it that way.
My mam who has worked in hospitals for as long as i can remember said so early today. Just seems weird to think i have a metal health problem :S

I know I do. But not just because of the cutting.

Cutting doesn't mean you have mental health problems, but it can be a sign that you do. It's common for people with mental health problems to self harm, but don't get confused between corrolation and cause. Having mental health problems doesn't cause self harm, but there is a corrolation.

Most of the time, self-harm is a coping mechanism for unhappiness. At least that's why a lot of people turn to it in the beginning. I'd say most self-harmers are at least clinically depressed, but of course it's probably not always the case. I've yet to meet a self-harmer who doesn't have anxiety, depression, a mood disorder, ectera, but I'm sure there are some out there.

Yes. If you have trouble stopping, you have an addiction. An addiction is a mental health problem.
