In 1963, Martin Luther King had a dream of racial equality. Nearly 50 years on, how far has the world come towards a racially equal society and will racism ever die?

No its in human nature to find flaws in ppl and point them out. Whether it be race height or anything as unimportant as the type of clothes you wear you can bet that someone wil point it out. And so comes segregation. Thoses ppl dont want to be with anything they call diffrent.

So long there is a majority and a minority, a dominant and a submissive, a proletariat and a bourgeoisie, an ugly and a beautiful, and different shades of melanin, I would say no. However, there are some laws to contain such instances.

Until one race completely obliterates all others, then yes, racism will persist.

Not until there is an alien invasion that requires the utmost co-operation between every able human being there will be racism and even then it will only redirect the hate towards the extra terrestrials.

As long as people continue to be people and are naturally different, hate towards others will always be a problem

There will always be prejudice against a race or another

Unless everyone goes blind, or does this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagism), then no, racism will always be prevalent.

Some things will never change, and this is one of them.
Ever since humans have existed, there has been racism, sexism, ageism, heightism, every kind of ism, and shallowness. So I doubt that will ever change, unfortunatly.

↑ somewhat agree with this.
It is in people's nature/mindset (which one TRULY affects this the most?) to behave differently towards people because of their differences.
Racism will never die, neither will many of the other discriminative acts that continue to go on. Even if they appear to have died, they'll just be underground, which makes it worse IMO.

It will never go away because it is passed down and people always find a reason not to like someone and cant actually find a legit reason

Heh? You think thought-crime will eventually become a thing?

I should've clarified: I think laws that are racially discriminatory can be done away with eventually.

No, that might happen, but it's more likely that a white soldier wouldn't trust his black partner etc.

I think that there has been what some might call an improvement, but to me it's sometimes a bit of a misconception. I think the younger generations are taught more 'empathy' towards people of other races, which makes it seem like they need pity or something.
Of course that isn't true for everyone. Lots of people these days generally don't care - therefore, an improvement I suppose.

Does anyone think society is less racist now than before or has their been little progress? Yes i do believe progress has been to make a less racist society, albeit slowly.

As for flaws i ment to what an other person might find an imperfection. If anything i think you should be proud o your race.

Why? It's not like I had any choice to be white/Asian, I don't see why I should be proud of that.

Why thank you :D
Some could even say there are downsides to being of a certain race — physically, socially, economically. It's true.
I'd rather take pride in my home country (Australia) because I have actual connections to it. My entire family lives there, and it's where I hail from. I have a strong association with Australia. This is in contrast to being half white half Asian — I don't have any meaningful connection to it besides it being my race.
