Can you communicate with it? Because I heard something about that and also how it is a different persona than your conscious self. Who knows what they are talking about?

Define subconscious.

You cannot contact it. It is what you are indirectly thinking. You cannot modify it. Perhaps you got the idea from the movie but it is impossible to do so(unless you're a psychologist. Unless you're interested in covert hypnosis, you don't really have to know much about it.

Your sub-conscience is the part of your brain where you store repressed memories, things you've heard but can't remember etc.
Things like people you've seen on the street.
For example,
did you know it's impossible to dream someones face that you have never seen before (dream dictionary.com)
So even though you dream a face you don't recognize, that face is some one you've seen on tv, or on the street, and it gets stored in your sub-conscious.
Anyway back to your question,
Yes it is possible to access your sub-conscious to get back repressed memories and such, but no it is not a different personality, just merely a collection of info and thoughts that you cannot access easily. You will always have a sub-conscious, your mind is always gaining info, even if you are not using it.

No... if you could then it wouldn't be your subconscious.

No. A subconscious is where you store any thoughts you didn't think yourself and any memories you don't remember having.

I might want to try hypnosis. I have some repressed memories about my dad (I think) for some reason, I blocked it out. I hardly remember him.
