I'm pretty sure I do. I told my Mom and she said she had it when she was younger. She said she had scary dreams and stuff.
I can fall asleep but I have to stay up until midnight or so. I can't just "go to sleep". So really, I have to exhaust myself of all my energy before I can sleep.
The only time I can fall asleep earlier, about 10 PM, is if I stay up until 2 in the morning for a couple days in a row>.>

I can have insomnia, it comes in patches, like one of my friends...1-2 hours a night is NOT cool with a week 12 hour days...

I have it quite frequently, there are periods where my sleep can be normal again, but that's generally only when my body has become that tired it has to rest.
I generally have to wait until I pass out because I've become that tired, or occasionally I can force myself to sleep.
I don't really have a sleeping pattern it now varies that much.

Insomnia affects all age groups. Among adults, women managers insomnia more often than men. Prevalence tends to increase with age. It is generally more common among those lower socioeconomic (income) groups, chronic alcoholics, and patients of mental health.

Quick question about insomnia/depression. I don't know why but since I've been depressed, a few years ago never officially diagnosed though, I "hate" sleeping. I feel like its a waste of time cuz I always think I could be doing something more productive than laying in bed unconscious. Does anyone maybe know why I'm thinking like this???

YES! All the time. It's one of my reasons for never going to bed at a "decent" time.

Insomnia, old friend.
I've always had insomnia. It started when I was really little and has never gone away. When I was 8 I was going to bed at midnight. Its just gotten worse, but last year was the worse for me. I didnt sleep for about 6 days. Part of that was I was on my laptop allnight, part of it was I just didnt want to sleep. I like my insomnia actually. xD

usually mine comes on for several days at a time when I go for about 48-72 hours straight. Then eventually my body just collapses for pure exhaustion.

My insomnia is patchy. Some days it's horrible, others it's only a bit bad. But I have it most of the time. I hate/love it.

Some people confuse insomnia with other sleeping problems. People with insomnia can be awake for days, and are exhausted but can never fall asleep. Just because you stay up to 2am or 3am some nights doesn't mean you're an insomniac.

^ Insomnia can be anything from difficulty getting to sleep to long periods on little to no sleep. You can also be considered an insomniac if you get a decent amount of sleep every night but find yourself always tired as if you hadn't slept at all. Insomnia is pretty broad actually.

Yep, I've had it for ... well, I've always had (past few years, quite severe)problems with sleep.
Why do you think you have it?

I think really whenever i'm down about something or worried it prevents me from sleeping properly. Lately i've not been able to sleep properly at all, its like theres always something preventing it. Too noisy, can't get comfortable, too quiet, too much light, can't stop thinking etc.

I do get it quite bad, when i do though there really isn't much of a reason for me it just happens. Most of the time when i get it, i don't sleep at all for days, i went like.. 6 whole days one time :P

just to clarify insomnia is not sleeping at all. Sleeping only a few hours a night is a different condition entirely.

That isn't true.
One definition of insomnia is "difficulties initiating and/or maintaining sleep, or nonrestorative sleep, associated with impairments of daytime functioning or marked distress for more than 1 month."

^ Like I had clarified before, insomnia is a very large umbrella actually. A lot of people say it's just not sleeping at all. The actual diagnostic criteria says differently.

My insomnia usually keeps me up 4~5 days before I'm exhausted and pass out.
It gives me so much free time to do what I want. :)

Reason you most likely feel like this is because you don't want to waste away part of your life when you are asleep. Some people feel this way, but yet believe it or not you can have a result of "productiveness." When sleeping. This is called creative dreams, which can actually bring up new ideas or solutions to things. Thomas Edison is a good example, he would often take naps and have creative dreams, write down things he dreamed about, and make a new invention off of that dream.

I have that. I lay in bed for hours everynight, unable to sleep.
Just last night I tried going to bed at about 12:30 am and couldn't fall asleep until 2:45 am, and even then I woke up in the middle of the night.

Mmm... I love seroquel. I don't think I would have gotten through the holidays without my sleep meds. They just knock me out. I still don't feel rested in the morning, but at least I got to sleep. Though I forgot them one night, and I can't take them after a certain time otherwise I wake up and I'm still drugged :P It was the night before Christmas Eve. I didn't sleep at all, I was worn out after the party even before having our Christmas dinner :P
