So. Not sure if this should go here but here goes.
I have this crazy thing, where I cannot sleep, however I can function perfectly fine. I used to have 8+ hours of sleep, now it ranges from half an hour up to a maximum of five hours. If I try to go to bed early I always get so restless and overheated and agitated, and usually dont get to sleep until 2AM, then I have to wake up at 6AM, so I feel pretty screwed. I cant understand how I can have so little, surely this is a little bit unusual, to say the least. Is there anything wrong with me?

It's not unusual, exactly. It's not a normal sleeping pattern, but nothing that people don't go through.

How long has it been going on like that? If it's been a while, I wouldn't be surprised if you have a bit of insomnia going on there. I can't diagnose, but that's what it's sounding like if there isn't any other real explanation.

I have insomnia along with my bipolar disorder. How well I sleep varies, between not sleeping at all, having difficulty initially getting to sleep, and getting a solid eight hours. But there's always a common factor: I wake up dead tired. And as tired as I am everyday, I can run on any amount of sleep as long as I get some sleep.

If you don't want to go about seeing someone about it, what I've done before is take over-the-counter meds that induce drowsiness. Otherwise, you can either go to a psychiatrist or a sleep doctor and can get on some sleep meds. You could also have a sleep study done which I did one time, though it's probably not necessary for this, but it's always an option. Sleep disorders aren't fun at all, I definitely feel for you. Hope everything gets better :)
