Okay, I tried really hard on this, and I uploaded it to facebook, which killed its quality. I did not have the original on this laptop so here is the one which is not as good.
There are still things I need to work on, like the eye and mane, However the color was requested, it is supposed to be a burnished brown fading to black. :)
Any gentle critique would be greatly appreciated :)

its not bad, its quite dark though, I'd suggest maybe a different colour in the background? hm. also, the colour is a bit random, you could try and spread it out a bit more, instead of just having one patch of it brown, try and work it into the shading and so on.
Another thing to do would be to get more highlights in, youve got the midtones and shading quite nicely, but try for a bit of contrast. when drawing/painting realistically, you should be thinking of about 20% black tones, 20% white tones and 60% mid tones.

The color was part of an art-trade type thing for a character on deviantart, but yes I think I could definitely have done the change better, however it was a real pig to do. I tried on white and It looked a lot worse, so I had to go with black. Are there any colors you could suggest to me which might be useful? =] I didn't want to try any bright colors because it was a more naturel painting (Made on gimp.)
Thanks for the tones tip though, will try to work from that in future, I remember somebody telling me this once so I should try it sometime :)

Its not on the laptop I am currently on, I'm afraid. To be honest, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference.
