What do you think? Do you think that is a justified invasion of privacy if a parent thinks the child could be doing something dangerous?

As long as the parents keep the computer in an area where it can be monitored from time to time, there's really no reason to. That and checking the Internet history.

It's called "Clear all history", the greatest device for porn watching teens ever.
I'd rather not have my parents know exactly what I'm doing online, thank ya very much. This website for example, it has a LOT of secrets of mine on here that I don't want anyone to know, so I don't want my parents to have access to my account.

No way in hell. The internet is the only freedom i have from my parents minus college and shit, i'd rather them not be watching my venting spaces.

Isn't there filtering software that can store a backup of the history that can't be deleted?

If they're doing something dangerous, yes, but until they do something to breach the trust of a parent, I see absolutely no reason for it. Mature kids and teens should have the privilege of privacy, and only those who can't handle it should be monitored in my opinion.

No, there should be trust. In this day and age parents should accept that their kids are going to find porn online, its not the end of the world.

Y'know, I was shown realistic porn by my mom's boyfriend because he didn't want me to see internet porn. I think that's a better route to go for parents, because I mean, I turned out normal, right? Right?

Yep, There are tons of them. Called Key loggers.
There also settings on the computer to keep someone who isn't the admin of the computer to keep the history.

Passwords, no, but I feel internet access should be monitored according to the child's maturity (though in the form of a computer being in a public place, not a keylogger)

no, that might lead to a few awkard convosations.... :p but in saying that I think that someone else should have all your paswords, not to spy on you but just incase you died or something.... not that we were talking about dying I just had to add that

Uh, why? Why would someone need your password if you died?

Like The Joker said, no.
I always delete the history when I'm using firefox cuz im on VT a lot. If I didn't and my mom saw links to sites talking about self harm and then said 'oh shit. That signature kind of reminds me of Lee. We'll need to have a talk...'
Yeah, that would not be good.
Cuz with passwords they could access all of my stuff and that would suckXD

Definitely not.
If a parent can't trust their child to have a computer and be on the Internet enough to let them have their privacy by using passwords etc. then they shouldn't let them on the computer in the first place.
Also, as someone previously said, if they're really that concerned they could just not let their children have wireless so they can keep an eye on what they're doing if it makes them feel better.
My mother kept me in the front room until I was 14, then freedom! :D

if parents can't trust their children to use the internet responsibily, then there is a greater more fundamental problem in that parent/child relationship

This. Parents try to be controlling enough as it is. There's no way I'd want them knowing everything that I'm saying/doing online.
