What do you think is the greatest guitar solo of all time?
For me it is the solo in "The Prisoner" by Iron Maiden

In terms of solo's that aren't guitar wankery, are actually complicated, and not dadcore. Personally, I don't really like guitar solo's much because they seem like pretentious show off abilities.

Also, if you're into fast guitar playing, you should research Math Rock or check this thread (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=82425) out. I'll make sure to update it today.

I'm probably biased because this is one of my favorite songs of all time, but whatever. This solo's a little bit of everything, including harmonics. It's like Kirk put some more detail into this one, which is why some consider it to be Metallica's best guitar solo.

I don't think greatest is a word.

But every song by Behold... The Arctopus has a decent amount of fun guitar solos that make heads spin. I'll just post all the songs of their first album and you can thank me later. You haven't heard epic until you listen to this.

Guy who made the thread, Iron Maiden?, Their guitar skills are average as well as their writing to be honest. Muse, Citizen Erased, for pure awesomeness, also MUSE RULE. Ooooooh and Afterlife, Avenged Sevenfold, Ooooooh and Vermillion, Slipknot, Ooooooh and Layla(Acousitc) intro solo. Pure awesomeness everyone.

Are you stupid or trolling? Or both? I gotta stop you at fucking Slipknot. One of the shittiest bands on the planet. You have no musical taste, Mr. Troll. Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, and Jankick Gers have more guitar talent than anyone in Avenged Sevenfold or Slipknot have in one finger. This is better than any of your shitty bands guitar skill and it surpasses any of Iron Maiden's guitarist.

No it's not. If you were to listen to the full song and live in gdansk album, you'd agree with me. Echoes is a spiritual experience. I didn't see it live there, but I have seen it performed live. I cried at the end of the song while I was there. It was beautiful. I want to suck David Gilmour's cock. I don't care how old he is now.

I have the Gdansk album and I love it. Echoes was a high point to the entire thing. However, I feel the Pulse version of Comfortably Numb is better mostly because I hear more power in it (not to mention the rough edgy vocals on the verses and then an airy tone for the chorus, it fits perfectly).

It simply has to be the one in One (LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL, see what I did there?) by Metallica. Other solos may be technically better, but this solo is the first one I think of when someone says 'guitar solo'. It's just an awesome end to an awesome song.

LOLOLOLOL I SEE WAT U DID THAR

Also, the One solo is pretty simple compared to other Metallica solos, which are all simple compared to solos you'd find in progressive/"art" rock. I find the One solo, while enjoyable to listen to, pretty repetitive.

Still good, though.

Slash is a fucking prick ass piece of shit. The only talent he holds is the talent of guitar wankery. His solos aren't hard to play at all and aren't anything complicated. He isn't any different from some dumbass playing in nickelback.

I never said he was fast, nor did I say he was complicated. But, if I am not mistaken, I did say that to me, a good guitarist becomes great when you feel his music. When I listen to slash, I can feel his music, he puts soul into it.

And, out of curiosity, what makes you say he is a prick?

No, generally his sols are filled with epic amounts of passion and perfect tone, as well as the perfect combination of notes stung together, more than anyother crap you might listen to. Want prove listen to november rain, then go look at covers of it you can see the difference to what slash is to every other guitarist

I agree i rate a solo on how it makes me feel rather than technical ability becoz u can learn talent but u cannot learn how 2 play with ure heart and soul. This is evident in slash's godfather solo.
