Incredibly overrated with drooling fanboys ready to buy whatever Robert Palmer puts out. Seriously, I can find no other band who is more idolized than Led Zeppelin. Don't get me wrong here, they made a massive contribution to rock music as a whole, but they're idolized if you ask me. I mean, really, a 22 minute version of "Moby Dick" in 1975? Are you fucking kidding me? Then again, I suppose if Pink Floyd could do an almost 30 minute "Interstellar Overdrive" or "I'm a King Bee", I suppose it isn't that too astonishing.

Other bands listed in this thread by naj, that's pretty stereotypical classic rock (the first four anyway, SRV is cool in my book).

I though the exact same thing before I googled it and was like "ooohhhh, guns 'n roses... :P

I found my dads old Led Zepplin II album it's really good but I think it may be too young in the Chronology to get into the massive hard rock they have all this credibility for.
