Asking out an older girl

Now before you get weirded out, the girl is only a year older than me. She's really hot to me and I wanna ask her out. Problem is, I've only had one girlfriend before this and that relationship went really badly...well, pretty bad but not horrible. Anyway, does anyone have any tips for asking this kinda person out and what to do on a date? Thanks for anyones help.
