Chinese workers built a 15 story hotel in only 6 days. This is an incredible feat. Here's a video of them constructing it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps0DSihggio

Behold China's real estate boom, in time-lapse! It took just six days to build the Ark Hotel in Changsha. According to the video, no stationary cranes were used in construction and there wasn't single injury among the site's workers. Hat tip to Good

The finished building stood 15 stories and used prefabricated columns (the foundation was apparently already built). Better yet, because the building's parts were factory-built waste was minimized.

Chinese engineers are super stupid.
Almost a year ago, they build 2 skyscrapers. One of the skyscrapers just toppled over the other skyscraper !
They barely use proper equipmment

Communism, weapons, electronics, architecture... just bascially anything with a "Made in China" sticker is bound to fail.

Can I have a citation for this?

The Chinese are productive, they know how to get work done. It amazes me they're capable of building a 15-story earthquake-proof hotel in only 6 days. Sure, it may not be the fanciest building, but it's functional and safe, and that's what matters.

Only the Chinese could do something likes this. You guys know damn well it would be really hard get Americans to do something like this.

Also, you guys should look at our own infrastructure before you go critizing other country's construction, architecture and engineering abilities.

Agreed. Admit it, the U.S.'s infrastructure was the world's best in the 1960s. Now it's all falling apart, and we don't have the money or stamina to fix it all. Why? Because Americans are so afraid of raising taxes to pay for the expensive projects they've asked their politicians to do.

Yes, non-stop working for 6 days gets stuff done. However:

6*24 = 146 hours
146/8 = 18.25 regular workdays

It took them over three weeks to build this and we don't know how many workers they used (It took way more than the average crew).

It is now a whole lot less impressive.

DarthEgg, I have no idea why do you defend Chinese?
They are productive because their products have no quailty.
It's like we drawing Picassos in 1 week and them drawing stickman in 15 seconds

No quality? Are you sure about that?

The Chinese are the world's next economic superpower. They're leading the way in green technology. They know how to work quickly and cleanly. The only reason Chinese products are stereotyped as being low-quality is because consumers happily purchase rock-bottom priced goods. You get what you pay for, don't blame the Chinese.

I barely blame the Chinese.
China is of course an economical superpower beause the government takes all the money and givesno money to citizens. And since they use cheap equipment ( come on, none can deny that. ) they can keep their money to themselves.

And happily purchase rock bottom price goods? You cannot show me any Chinese good that is expensive.
A pair of Adidas shoes are only 2 dollars there !

Give money to their citizens? Ha! A majority of Chinese people are poor farmers. However, their abundance of natural resources and capital, combined with strategic deregulation of their economy, has created the next superpower. China isn't powerful because its citizens have money, it's powerful because it's holding the world's debt, it has an actual manufacturing sector, and it attracts businesses from around the world.

You automatically assume that all Chinese goods are cheap and low-quality, however, there's nothing to back that up. China makes all sorts of things, not just plastic toys — their leaps forward in green technology, for example, are setting the stage for the international economy of the future.

7 out of 10 goods I have seen in my entire life have the " Made in China " thing under them.
And the red part, who said Chinese people have money? People are super poor there, their wages are no more than 5 dollars. We haven't witnessed anything super good from the Chinese. Every year, we recieve fail news from their consturctions, every year we hear about their cancer products, every year we see 100 more people populating Chinatowns...
EDIT : " I was going to say they don't give money to their citizens "

China may be a superpower, but it is only because Europe and America open
factories there and produce goods for 1 dollar and sell it to 100 dollars in their countries. Only their super important products have high quality, like the green things you said. Only quality goods I have seen in Far East is the Japanese products.
Everyone believes here that this hotel will fail like the others. What makes you think THIS one will not fail just like the others?

I don't think they will put so much money into it unless they knew it will last. If 2 buildings fell on each other last year it doesn't mean the millions of other buildings fell as well. Stereotyping is one of the biggest problems in human nature. We should all bware it

It'd be nice to get a few Chinese-residents' opinions on this.

And everything made by human hands is bound to fail.

China's learning from its mistakes. It's making that enormous transition from a mass production-based economy to a more capitalist service economy. As this happens, they'll start imposing regulations to improve the quality of goods that come out of there to improve their standing internationally. I, for one, think that China's goods are of much better quality today than they were 10 years ago.

China is a superpower because it's the world's factory, and it intends to stay that way. There are numerous benefits to having a more productive economy compared to a service economy like in the United States and Europe. Because both of these regions are so biased towards the service industry that they simply don't produce much anymore, they put that weight on China. Eventually, as the recession bites into the wealth of the US and Europe, the Chinese will hold those debts and have an advantage. At the same time, China is attracting corporations from the West and making innovations in future industry. This mix has sheltered it from the recession and put it up on top, soon China won't have to "rely" on the West for economic activity, since it'll be creating its own.

I haven't seen stories of any similar hotels in China failing.

I googled it, and all I can find is one story about a skyscraper fire (not collapse). I don't trust Google Images for reliable information.

Then you don't know how to search things. I read many things about Chinese skyscrapers collasing horizontally, while their interiors stay unharmed.
They don't dig in the ground well. They just put bricks on soil, without foundations of the building.

That's an extreme generalization. You keep talking about these skyscrapers collapsing, yet you haven't actually provided any evidence of it. From what I've seen, China is good at building things — just look at the 2008 Olympics.
