Sometimes I hate this class. Why? It showcases how unoriginal and boring some people are. When the teacher asks how we'd run the country, every single person replies with "LOL YAH ITD BE A DEMOCRCY AND EVERYONE HAS EQUAL RIGHTS". This shit annoys me. Yeah, I'm cool with equal rights, but it's obvious how little time these people spend thinking about this before answering. There is NO such thing as elaboration or a free mind. Everyone seems to have their brains closed off, with a little hole for bullshit adult propaganda to fit into.

People BORE me.

except you have to be boring/unorignal if you expect to pass english. Because lieterature analysis only has one correct answer, and 'open ended prompts' really only have 1 or 2 acceptable answers.

at least half of 'em are probabyl trying to do the expected work/answers to get the highest grade.

but yes. english sucks.

Shouldn't you be learning literature in English lesson ?

In UK, English lessons aren't like this at all.
People are free to interpret literature and express themselves pretty much however we like. Of course we get direction from our teacher, but she does say to us "if you think I'm talking shit, just tell me".

Should be, but analysis is part of it, as is discussion of the purpose.
But most teachers only accept 1 or 2 'analyses' of the piece as valid/acceptable, even if you can back it up.

And then different teachers use, and only except certain styles, so something you were taught last year is completely unacceptable the next. It suckss :(

Until High School we had "Social Stuides" lesson, then it was divided to History and Geography lessons.
However, we also discussed currenty day matters there.

But you do this social talk thing as a side thing or the whole class' topic is about social matters?

We do discussion aswell as literature etc... And our teacher lets us interpret stuff as we want and we get higher grades if we make our own interpritations of text and not just what our teacher told us. I love english :D

OK, let me clarify for everyone. I have three different "humanities" teachers, so it's a mix of English and Socials.

My English class....is English, we do literature and such, but I HATE it.

Assignment: Explain how you interpreted Chapter *Insert Number*
Class the next day: *Volunteer answer*
Teacher: NO! You should have interpreted it THIS way.

WTF?!

I have to give answers that my teacher wants to read, even if they're completely weird and out there. It's dumb.

Damn, they actually teach you English in English class? In mine they don't lol. We are reading about King Arthur. And on that note I haven't read the 4 chapters I was told to.

She expects us to read 4 chapters which is 30 pages of extremely small print in 2 days. Mind you we are young and stupid and have 2 days off to do whatever so I doubt many of us have read it all, especially me and my friends lol(my half rant for the night)

Has anyone ever read The Once And Future King? That's the book she is having us read>.>

I used to try to be fun and original in my essays and crap until I realized that was making me fail because what your teacher wants is an answer, straightforward, while arranging the words in such a way that your message is clear and understandable. Once you realize that, it gets easier.

I prefer creativity in my essay writing. I have to keep myself entertained while I'm typing it up lol

I'm generally a smart ass in English and I think the teacher finds it slightly annoying sometimes:D

English separates the bright from the dull-minded. I know that VT can make it seem like every teenager is capable of having an intelligent conversation or engaging in sophisticated debate, but the truth is that most people out their are stupid. I find it hard to believe people aren't capable of thinking deeply. I also find it disturbing that people don't know the difference between "your" and "you're", or how to use a semicolon.

Damn people.

Heh, I have to admit I don't know all the rules of semicolons either, but I'm pretty sure I have the concept down :P

Blergh. I hate English class most of the time. I think very abstractly, and always have trouble with how they want us to interpret the stories/poems. I have a lower grade than some people in my class just because I think a different way. And I always love it when we go off on a question raised by our teacher that requires thinking. Half of the people in the class just throw out exactly what their parents fed them in attempt to act intelligent. Retarded monkeys...

Anyway, those are my thoughts, and they may be a bit harsh at the moment considering I'm not in a great mood.

Honestly if I ran a country I think I'd set it up to be kind of like Britain, because honestly I'm not serious enough or driven enough to actually run an entire country, so i'd be like the king of england I guess... And then I'd just make sure they didn't put some idiot redneck into power.
