For anyone who hasn't found out yet, Jeff Carter signed a new contract with the Flyers yesterday. 11 years with an average salary of $5.27M/yr. Great contract money-wise but some people are skeptic about the long term of it. I'm usually against deals over 6 years but I really like this one.
Good one Flyers!
Also, Giroux re-signed with Philly a few days ago for three years. David Backes re-signed with the Blues, 5 years with an average of around $4.5M/yr. Another steal. Should make for a boring offseason...

Well, I don't really follow the Wings that much, unless there's a re-signing or some on-ice incident. If you find any info feel free to bring it on in, it'd be greatly appreciated :D

Yeah, no doubt. Richards, Carter and Giroux all locked in. If they can get some consistent goaltending they'll be great for a long time.
I was pulling for the Ducks to take Giroux in '06. Instead, we took Mark Mitera -_-

As long as the isles start winning i really don't care. The Bridgeport coach Jack Capuano is going to take over with the EXACT same system as Gordon, So i don't see how this is going to change anything. Okposo And Streit are both out, plus it doesn't help that we were running 5 defensemen and Bruno 'the chef' Gervais is getting 20+ minutes of ice time. I mean what was Gordon going to do? I'm surprised he didn't hang himself.
I'll say this though, until Charles Wang stops being cheap and opens up his purse this team isn't going anywhere, no matter how well you draft. I can also guarantee that Scott Gordon will find another job within the NHL in the near future. Sad to see him go. If anybody is to blame for this teams failure, It's Wang.
*EDIT* Love your sig dude!!

I think once you guys get all your players back, you'll be back on track. I know how important Streit and Okposo are, losing guys like that can devastate a team. And I agree, Gordon didn't have much to work with. The coach can only work with what the GM gives him, but something defiantly had to be done.
But yeah, Wang is a huge part of the team's failure, and Milbury's idiotic crap is still leaving it's mark.
And thank you :P I'm so creative.

It kinda pissed me off how they hardly played Osgood last season, and they just played the rookie Howard 98% of the time.
Now this year, when Osgood is finally let back in the net, hes a bit rusty because he hasn't played in a little under a year.
They should have really thought this through more, because now Osgood is suffering.
He took the Wings to the playoffs for God sakes, give the man some playing time and let him get back on his game.

They played Howard because Howard was sensational. Going into the regular season, he had won something like 23 games out of the last 27 or so.

True, but Osgood is a Red Wings legend, almost as Yzerman was(Although not quite as much, as Yzerman was the captain and made it into the Hall of Fame).
I think what they should have done is rotate the players game for game. Howard, then Osgood, then Howard, then Osgood.
Then they would have two kick ass goalies, instead of one good goalie, and one rusty veteran.

Legend= old player. Unless they can consistently produce how they used to, they should slowly faze out.
Osgood started playing badly, and Howard started playing well. That's a dumb idea, to switch the goalies like that, because NEITHER can develop any sort of consistency. If Jimmy Howard pitches a shutout, then the next game Osgood lets in, let's say three goals on ten shots, then the next game, Howard allows only one goal. Would you still let Osgood play the next game? No, because you ride the hot goalie.

You can't really blame them. Howard's been waiting years for his big break and he finally got it, the Wings would've been crazy to ruin it. Osgood's glory days are long behind him, although he's still a decent goalie he's certainly not what he was a few years ago.
To be honest, when you get that old, there isn't much getting back on your game. I think Howard more than deserves the starting role, I mean he's 9-1 this year with a 2.15 G.A.A. I certainly wouldn't take him out of the net with that record.

Only fitting such a game be played between two Canadian teams. And lmao to DiPietro, the guy has glass hips and plastic knees. Apparently the islanders just won't give up on this guy, everytime he gets injured "Gentlemen! We have the technology, we can rebuild him!" Lol, before we know it his entire body will be replaced with spare car parts and metal rods. But at least then he can't pull or break something.
Sadly, I don't see anyone trading for Mr. 2021. Not unless he returns to form and becomes a 50+ game goalie, which isn't out of the question.

Eh, I thought the Canes got a really good deal. Then again, I've loved White since his early days with the Leafs. Generally I think it was a fair swap, it didn't appear the Anton was going to sign with the Canes this year, and people were saying White's 'character issues' were hurting his relationships in Calgary (I honestly don't doubt it). White seemed pretty happy about going to Carolina when asked about it on NHL Powerplay a few days ago, so hopefully he'll get back on track there.

I think a full season in the AHL is what he needs, he was rushed in a little to quick IMO. But I don't think he'll be down there for long.

They did it because he was pointless in 13 games, plus he's at 159 games. If they had waited any longer he would have had to clear waivers and lord knows he would have been claimed in a heartbeat. Travis Hamonic made his NHL debut tonight, looked solid even though we lost in OT. He had a good chance in OT, just didn't bury it. Not a bad pick up by Minnesota, maybe a change of scenery will do some good for O'sullivan.

Thank god.. We needed some momentum going into the game we're playing against the rags this week. As much as i want the first overall pick, going backwards is no way to run a franchise, you should only be going forward at this point. Granted that injuries have taken us down, losing like that is not acceptable. Wang needs to sell the team before he dies and his morbidly obese son takes over.

Nikita Filatov has been sent down to the AHL by the Blue Jackets. He's had only 7 assists in 23 games, and was the 6th overall selection by the Jacket's in '08. Lots of people are saying he's starting to look like Zherdev 2.0, I still think he has pre-Devils Kovalchuk type potential though. He is only 20. Speaking of Kovalchuk, at last check he's on pace for 39 points on the year. I hope for the Devils sake that this trend won't continue for 14 more years...

Columbus has a very bright future in my mind if their prospects pan out, (Filatov, Voracek) suprising to here Filatov was sent down but I'm sure it won't be too long. Kind of what the isles are doing to Josh Bailey. (Ironically we traded down to pick Bailey when we could have had Filatov) And good lord i don't know how many times i've said it and I'll say it again, NJ is screwed long term. And Ty i know its not HF but its something lol, i'll try to post on HF more but my computer is slow and im on my iPod alot.

Yeah, the first time I heard "17 years" I was like 'LOL right'. I couldn't believe it was serious. The NHL intervening was a sign that they should've backed off, but they went right back and signed him for a decade and a half. No one is in their prime until they're 43, hell, even Gretzky only had 9 goals in his last season (when he was 40). For the life of me I can't figure out what is causing all the shit in Jersey, but most of it leads back to bringing in a player like Kovalchuk. It shook up a team with great chemestry and now it appears everyone resents each other.
With Marty Broduer more than likely retiring this year, and no clear goalie coming up in the system, things are going to get worse before they get better in NJ.

To all islanders fans, what is your opinuion on the lighthouse project, and do you think Wang will ever get it?
LOL, Wang never gets his lighthouse project and sells to the highest bidder before the lease is up, lets face it this team is going nowhere. You can draft all the great prospects in the world but without veteran talent around them they'll turn to shit. Look at Edmonton, they have a very succesful rebuild going, Hall, Eberle, Pajarvi, playing with vets such as Hemsky, and Penner. Isles have Tavares, Okposo, Bailey, and soon Niederriter, surronded by scrubs like Hunter, Weight and PAP. You can't have a top 6 made of 20 year olds.
He needs to scale it down if it's ever going to happen, or this team needs to start winning soon before anything ever happens.

Kinda surprised me when I heard about it. It was 4 years. He's had a pretty bad year in Russia, I still think he could get an NHL contract if he wanted one, but he'd have to go through waivers to play in the big club. Perhaps Tampa?

Yeah Nabby is my favorite goalie ever (i'm a sharks fan... till i die) he would be a HUGE addition to whatever team hes is brought too. I wouldnt be surprised if he wait till next season and tries to come back to the sharks (his wife is from san jose i believe, and his children have lived here all their lives) when Nemo leaves.

There's already been three episodes? Crap. But yes, I'm really enjoying watching 24/7, it's the kind of exposure the NHL needs, and HBO does a really good job capturing the feel of the game on and off the ice. Boudreau puts on a bit though, it's pretty obvious.

I agree, but Wisniewski only had 1 year left on his contract anyway and would have been a UFA at the end of the season anyway. I would have waited until the deadline was a little closer, but i guess if the Islanders wanted a top 3 pick they pretty much ensured that by trading Wiz. Also Kills their PP.

I'm not sure why CBJ would be interested in him considering they have Steve Mason who they are betting their future on. I'm not sure they would have the cap space to sign him considering he is a $5-6 million goalie and they have to think about resigning Filatov and Vorcek (sorry sp?) but im sure a few other teams are interested in him hes proven he can win 40+ games a season with the right team he just needs playing time because he gets rusty very easily.

Considering they have the highest cap space in the league, as well as some of the best rookies (from all their consistent last place finishes.. sorry i had to add that in lol) they should probably start preparing for the off season now, unless they are still planning on turning their season around some how. The future looks bright for them if DiPietro can finally stay healthy for the rest of his 17 year contract (lol huge mistake btw) and then they just use Streit and Kondratiev (sp?) on their blue line as the top pair and have a top line of Schremp-Tavares-Okposo and they could have a heavy hitting team in a few years

Well, there's always a bright side to finishing last or close to last. It's a good draft to have a top-5 pick, guys like RNH, Couturier, Larsson, Ladeskog, Rask, and Hamilton, just to name a few. Isles should have no problem nabbing a good future star next year. But I've said it once and I'll say it again. The team will always have a monkey on their back as long as Wang has any part of it. He wants the absolute cheapest players and doesn't care about the skill level. Not to mention he's the moron that brought Milbury in to destroy the team.
I say in the next three years the Isles are a playoff team, as long as Wang is gone.

PAPsmear has been far from good for the isles. I don't care how many points you put up his turnover numbers are disgusting. Can't wait til Okposo comes back, then PAP is hopefully gone. They're only starting him to get a right handed shot besides Comeau. His point production is decent though yeah.

Although it is unlikely, anything is possible in an 82 game season.
I have an idea for the rebuild. Let's say the Islanders get the 2nd overall choice. Couturier goes first, and the Isles nab Adam Larsson 2nd. To make room, make trades (not exactly) like this.
To Anywhere
Mark Eaton

3rd Round Pick (2011)

Mike Mottau
To Isles
Late Pick (2011)
These deals are just to make contract and salary room. Witt's buyout cost will go down to just $0.83M next year, so that helps out. Now, ASSUMING all of these players go to free agency, sign the following players:
Alexander Semin (RW/LW)
6.4M/yr, 3-5 years
Christian Ehrhoff (D)
5.5M/yr, 3-5 years
Joni Pitkanen (D)
4.7M/yr, 3 years
Ian White (D)
3.2M/yr, 2 years
Tomas Fleischmann (F)
3.3M/yr, 1 year
Jim Vandermeer (D)
2.8M/yr, 1 year
Jussi Jokinen (LW)
2.5M/yr, 2 years
Mathieu Garon
1.5M/yr, 1 year
LINEUP:
Semin - Tavares - Okposo
Jokinen - Bailey - Fleischmann
Niederreiter - Schremp - Hunter
Martin - Nielsen - Grabner
Gillies
Comeau
Pitkanen - Streit
Ehrhoff - Vandermeer
White - Hamonic
Gervais
MacDonald
DiPietro
Garon
The lines may not be correct, but it's just a rough idea.
Calculating the cap (including Yashin and Witt's buyouts) with all the signings and trades, the total cap is 56.2M, leaving 3.2M in cap space (assuming the cap doesn't rise, which it probably will).

Yup, second only to Gretzky in points per game with 1.883. Had he not made a comeback it would've been the highest, but it was awesome to see him back for part of 5 seasons. A trade went down mid afternoon between Anaheim and Toronto:
To Toronto:
Joffery Lupul
Jake Gardiner
Conditional 4th Round Pick in 2013
To Anaheim:
Francois Beauchemin
I was pissed when I first got word of this, as I thought very highly of Gardiner and I have a lot of hope for him. I'm sad to see Loops go again too, he was one of my favorite Ducks. But, we get back a very solid D-man in Beauch, one of the big guys that helped us win the Cup in '07.
Thoughts?
