It seems posts can only be edited within a certain time limit of them being posted, why is this?
It is annoying, especially when certain diary mods completely change what you wrote in your post (what I wrote broke no rules, his reason for changing it being 'my diary') and you can't change it back.
So yeah I think this feature should be changed what does everyone else think?

I think it was because I mod of the diary, edited it :)
And its my diary, and I can do whatever the fuck I want with it

Yes I know it was you that edited it, and I know it was your diary. However no, you cannot 'do whatever the fuck you want with it' you can do what the owners of this site allow you and only that. Whether you mod the diary or not, you changed what I wrote so it appears I had said things I didn't. Surely that cannot be allowed?
Anyway that was only a side thought, the question behind this thread is why the time limit on edits?

I'm guessing because a mod (me) changed it

No Miguel, you can't do that. That's actual a horrible thing to do. If you feel offended, or that it is really rude you should edit the whole post or delete it, then repost it.

ok i dont like this whole editing post thing. editing posts should only be left to mods. because if you go about editing someones post like that you change what they are saying and that just undermines them totally.

if you have a problem with a post in your diary delete it or report.

mRojas2000

LOL I didnt have any problems with it...
I dont have a problem with it... really... if theres any ways of getting the old posts back, then do it, lol

the fact that there was no problem with it makes it so much worse. your abusing the fact that you can edit peoples post in your diary.

Thank you Alex and Diego for your support.
Miguel, take a lesson from this.
Edit: Miguel just saw that post, if you were referencing to Alex's edit, that is completely different. Pinkcar was just plainly advertising his diary, technically thats spam. Alex had every right to edit that.

This isn't over... alex has also done it... lets see what he has to say now..
Btw, I'm just looking what I can do defend myself... I've seen it done, so why couldn't I do it too?

what exactly are you trying to achieve by that post? i did that a good few months back. i wouldnt do it now, because i have seen its not the best to do that.

maybe we should get rid of diary owners being able to edit posts. then we wont have this problem again.

Bobby
October 28th, 2006, 05:16 PM
No, I think we should allow it, but if there is another incident like this than we will take away the diary. It should apply to everyone. And there are some places to edit peoples posts, use your judgement.

mRojas2000
October 28th, 2006, 05:16 PM
Maybe... do whatever you want with my diary then, other than deleting it... you can change it whatever you want as long as I'm a mod of it... you can take out the editing post thing if you want... or trust me I won't do it anymore (I promise), and just ignore people...
But if you just don't trust me or just want to do it, go ahead, change the posting editing in my diary to prevent further fighting/problems

I doubt anything will happen this time, but if it happens again maybe? Alex?

ok let me take this time to point out that the Moderators for the diaries are the Global Moderators and Administrators. anyone else is a Diary Owner. to be honest i am really not seeing the point of having the Diary Owners being able to edit other peoples posts. if theres a problem with the post it can be deleted.

this is the second time we have had a problem with a Diary Owner editing someones posts.

Your permission isn't needed to do anything with your diary, nobody on here seems to understand that you can only do what you can, because the site owner says you can. Whether it is 'your diary' or not, if an admin chooses to delete it, they can with or without your permission. So I wouldn't tell admins what they can and can't do.
I think the diary mod edit feature should be disabled, it is unnecessary and not all diary mods are trusted to use it properly as we can see.

mRojas2000

What will happen then?? Will you take the feature out??

EDIT

I really didn't make bad use of my diary for changing a couple of post...
Here in VT I had the luck to have a diary, and I'll still have it... I understand that they can delete my diary, but really... if you think about it, it wouldn't be fair because of a couple of post I edited

Bobby

Well..I think that we should be able to.. but if this happens again then it should be taken away.

now that brings me a really big question, why are we losing that feature just because of a certain person complaining? i mean i hhardly touch the edit button on other peoples post in my diary, i would like it to stay the same as it was.
because there are people who sometimes say bad things that need to be taken out for example, look at Activates post in the pirates bay. you can tell that he said something bad before Robin changed it.
http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7927
9 out of 10 don't abuse our power to edit other people, plus it kinda gives us a glimpse of how a real mod works.

mRojas2000
October 29th, 2006, 03:53 AM
Still... I also changed it because he was being mean to me about my pics and stuff...

Whisper
October 29th, 2006, 04:43 AM
if you have a problem with a post such as its a direct attack at you or a fight starting then delete the post
It looks like to me robin completly changed what activate said
personally i dont like that he could have deleted what he said and said that he removed the offensive parts instead of completly changing the post
you should be able to edit your own post
but not everyone elses

I agree with Alex
If you have a problem either just delete it or report the post
The 2 Gmods
3 Admins
or councelor
all of which are in diffrent time zones to maximize the chances of atleast one of us being on
will deal with it
i promise you that

miguel i think your a great guy I really mean that
but you cant just edit someones post because you can
i'm a global mod i have the ability to edit any post on the site
does that give me the right to for no reason? no
thats like saying because a cop has a gun he can go around shooting anyone

mRojas2000
October 29th, 2006, 05:28 AM
Ok, I won't do it anymore... I said that... whenever I don't like a post because of flaming or something, last thing I'll do is edit it... I promise :)
I still can't edit my own post tho... look:
its this post:

and heres a screenshot:

Miguel i am trying to fix that for you.

and as Cody says we have people across different time zones, so there shouldnt be any problems. plus if you dont like someones post you have two options, you delete it or you report it.

Break the Cage
October 29th, 2006, 07:10 AM
Karmine, like Whisper and Alex say, that feature is not needed. Simply report the post or delete it if there is something really wrong with it.
Miguel, how many times must I say this, you asked for opinions, I gave mine. If you don't want to hear what people think, don't ask! Not everyone is going to lick your ass even if they don't like you.

I understand why you guys took away the post edit thing for diary owners, and I think that is right (not that my opinion matters here), but I agree with why Miguel changed those posts in the first place.

Miguels whole thread was for fun and joking around - he wasnt seriously being an egotistical whore, not at all. But a certain someone seems to enjoy going around and starting fights wherever he can. It was clearly obvious that he wanted to tick Miguel off and ruin his fun. If I were Miguel, I sure as hell would have edited those posts too.

And just like all of you are saying that if you dont like a post, delete or report it, well if you dont like a thread - DONT POST IN IT! Apparently that is really hard for Break The Cage to understand, because all of his posts everywhere are basically put downs and insults.

I don't think you understand what I am saying, Miguel asked for peoples opinions on him and I gave mine. I really don't see the problem.
I didn't want to 'tick Miguel off' I was just giving my views on the thread, if he really got 'fun' out of compliments from strangers over the internet... well then I pity him.
I didn't say if you don't like the post, I said if there is something wrong with it, aka it breaks a rule and mine didn't. You can't tell me where and where not to post. All of my posts everywhere? Slight exaggeration there..
