Ok so I think i'm may end up with braces by the years out. My teeth aren't exactly that bad but i've been offered them and my mum and dad say that i'll never get the opportunity again, but I really am kind of worried about getting them. Generally when people get braces they are likes 14 and have already got them off by now but i'll only be getting them when i'm 17 not likely getting them off for at least another year. Does anyone close to my age still have braces in or has any advice towards this? :(

It's really not that big of a deal that you're 17 and just getting them on. I know literally tons of people that have had that happen to them.

You'll totally regret it later if you don't get them.

I highly doubt that anyone will make fun of you, don't worry. :)

Oh Calum, it's not rare. Everyone is used to ppl with braces, and it makes no difference how old are you, and you will get used to it as well! DON'T YOU DARE REFUSE THE BRACES OFFER! If you won't do this you will soo regret bout it!!

Not only is it normal to get braces as an adult, it’s becoming a status symbol! Many people who for various reasons (such as cost, no dental insurance, lack of care or late diagnosis of problems) couldn’t get braces at the more usual age of 11-15 years, are now getting orthodontia done when they’re older.

I know some doctors in their 40’s and 50’s who are wearing braces. The result is healthy tooth alignment and a more perfect smile, and it’s worth it.
I understand your concern about appearance, and everyone no matter what age has the same apprehension when they get braces. The simple fact is that other people don’t care if you are wearing braces. In fact, others know that braces are necessary and give better-looking teeth, and they may even be envious that you are getting this dental procedure done. In three short years, you’re going to be very glad you did it. Trust me, people like you because of who you are and how you treat them - not because of whether you wear braces or not. So be proud of yourself for taking good care of your teeth, and just flash your bright smile to the world.

I'm 16 now and I'm going to get train-track braces in 3 weeks. I've already been wearing twin-block braces for 6 months. It's really not that bad and IMO it's definitely worth the end result - think of the beautifully straight teeth you'll have! :D

Hmm... I suppose refusing the offer would be rather stupid in the long run and I'm liking the idea of having perfect teeth, so i'll probably end up with going ahead with it. Thanks for your support guys :)

You're welcome!
Just think about the end result! It'll make everything seem much more worth it ^^

They hurt when you get them on at first and when they get tightened, but you'll get used to it. I got mine when I was 10 and still have them.

Hey, if you haven't already got started my I recommend Invisalign? I'm getting started soon, and as you probably know they are clear tray aligners. They don't usually cost much more either. I'm 15 by the way.

It's no big deal at all, I had braces for 3 and a half years, it would be 4 this month, and it's no biggie whatsoever.

Trust me, no one will care. And it's better to go a year or 2 with braces, than a life time with crooked teeth.
