Don't use vaseline unless your gonna take a shower right after cause that crap is uber hard to get off. Same for baby oil. Your best bet would be a lotion, spit or conditioner. But when your using lotion and conditioner a little goes a long way.

do it in the shower, or use something household like shaving cream (my favorite, works really well and rinses right off leaving a good smell), Vaseline (doesn't need multiple applications) or baby oil (works if you lack the above, but requires multiple times being put on, and is smelly).
