So for Christmas I'm getting either a laptop or a desktop, and I was wondering can anyone suggest me some that would be good to either buy, or just to look at?
Basically, it won't be playing games (xbox can do that for me), have a webcam and has to be under £400. If anyone can find any that would be much appreciated (I'm not a computer junkie so I wouldn't know what in gods name was good or bad)

Look around places such as pc world and comet. You want it running windows 7 and has about 2-4gb of ram.

Laptops are suitable for girls :P
Make a poll, and see what you get.

I don't really think that'd work since she's in the UK :P
Basic stuff you'd want regardless of which one:
-2-4 GB of RAM (The higher the better)
-A good amount of HDD space (250GB should be more than enough)
-Windows 7
Basically, the rest is if you want it to look really nice or be able to handle a lot of stuff.
When it really comes down to it, desktops give you more for what you're paying, but laptops give you portability, which is a HUGE upside in my opinion.

I don't know if you have heard of the netbook in your country. Basically it's a smaller laptop the does all the things a normal laptop would do. That should be in your price range

They ship world wide :)
My laptop has xp and 1gig of ram, intel centrino processor, unsure on HDD space. But for using the internet, microsoft office, and a few other applications its great. :)

Dude. Europe is at least on par with America on tech stuff. And 400 GBP is ~$650.
Just going from Amazon.co.uk, you can get a HP desktop with 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, and Windows 7 Home Premium for 350 GBP.
