For those of you that have friends, have you evr told them what you do? Have you ever told them your painful secret??
Because i had 3 close friends. One of them was really random and just alot of fun to be around. I told her and she said that it wasn't a good way to handle my emotions but that she was here for me.
Then my 2nd friend, I told her and she said that she was here for me, and to get her when I felt like cutting. And then there was my last friend. I told her and she screamed @ me on the phone and told me that I was weird then hung up on me. What has been your worst friends reaction? and your best friends reaction?

Well, I've had a few reactions. When I first started 3 years ago, one of my friends noticed the cuts, and I told her. She was pretty supportive. When I say that, I mean she didn't point and call me an emo. My other friends didn't know.

After a while, I told a few other friends. One of them was brilliant. My best friend was there for me the whole time. Another friend was... Well, she pretended she didn't hear anything.

Another friend that I didn't tell, she overheard a conversation between me and someone who knew about my SH, and then went and called me an attention seeker. She also spent about 6 months avoiding me and calling me an attention seeking emo for ages.

But when I had one of my worst relapses, my best friend was the only one who knew. No one knew about my not so bad relapses. She was really supportive and she still is, I love her :P

So she had the best reaction I could have thought I would get.

I told some friends, who ahve since forgot thank god as I have fell out with them.

There is one I really want to tell, but can't. :(

i've told 3 friends and two girlfriends. both girlfriends were supportive, as well as two of my friends. the other slapped me a few times.

She totally understand and said she doesnt think of me different and that she wouldn't tell anyone. :D

a few of my friends know adn they are very supportive and my boyfriend knows ans also cuts so he understands and we help each other and when i told my one friend who lives 600 miles away he said that if i said i wanted to cut ever again hed call the cops on me....so now i dont tell him anything about my life anymore cuz if my parents or school found out again id be dead....

Only one friend of mine knows and that was an accident, i never ment for him to see the scars. And he just said he was there for me and he doesnt like me doing it. And every time i did it he would get upset and angry with me and blame himself. which made me feel guilty.
So really for me people that know me not finding out is probably the best idea right now :/

I told one of my friends because she'd done it a few times before too, but none of my friends know how serious it became for me. For her it was a one time thing, and as far as I know she doesn't do it any longer, although we're no longer really friends. I only have one friend I would consider telling, and I think she would understand but I just would like to put the cutting behind me and I don't think telling people about it is the way to do that, for me personally at least.

I told 2 friends but then one of them told people and was a dick so I don't hang around with him any more, my other friend has been really supportive in getting me on this site

talking about self harm to someone is like the hardest thing i can talk about, i reached out to my girlfriend twice and her reaction was like i didn't even say anything. one of my friends saw when i was drunk, he wasn't really sure how to deal with it, asked about it, and said i could talk to him about anything.

Quite a few friends know, be it from me telling them, or just seeing.
I never got a bad reaction as such, I think the worst was probably
"oh my god, natalie no stop it :|"
Or one of my friends who simply saw the mess one time threw me some... strange looks.
and the most amusing was probably the
"stop it, or i'll cut your arm off"
but yeah, the few that know either accept it and move on, are there when i need them, or turn a blind eye to the situation completely.

I only told two people about it years ago when I was still at school
One spread it around the whole school and the other really helped me out (and I'm still really good friends with her today 4 years later)
So just be careful who you tell, some people accept it and some dont, but it does make it easier knowing you have someone you can turn to

i'm very lucky to have a lot of friends who understand i suppose, i'm very open about my self harm because...well because after 3 and a half years of hiding it i just couldnt do it any longer, so now all my friends and family know, they are all so supportive and have helped me through so many hard times its unbeleivable <3

Two days ago I told my '' best '' friend that i'm cutting. When I told him, it didn't turn out so good for me. He was like " omg... you're a fu**ing emo " . He was like laughing at me and I didn't expect that from him :( .

So yeah, I don't plan telling another person ever again because im afraid of the response.

I might hang out with my best friend for a week or so this month. I might tell him I cut if I do get to go over. My Mom thinks we smoke about everyday when I'm there, she's right of course, but she don't know that lol. Much rather have her find out I smoke than cut. She knows I drink as she caught me after I did itXD I don't recommend underage drinking or smoking tho, it can make you more depressed if you have to quit abruptly due to withdrawal symptoms:P

i've told four people, including my boyfriend at the time. best friend and bf were like oh god no stop it right now that's so awful ahhhhh. the other two self harm as well and are very supportive. for everyone who hasn't told a single person, i think you need to... it helps a hell of a lot.
