If it's a finger prick, you won't see any needles. It looks like a little plastic box that they put on your finger, you feel a pinch, and then they squeeze your finger for the blood.
If you're getting it taken out of your elbow or hand, look the other way, squeeze the chair with the hand/arm not being taken from, and sing the alphabet. It doesn't hurt that bad, I promise. Personally, I think a rubber band being snapped against your arm hurts worse.

I used to be afraid of needles too, but i'd always look the other way, and imagine so many other things that could be worse, like the one time I got kicked in the balls and almost cried. Nowadays i like to look directly at the nurse or doctor putting the needle in and i don't know why, maybe I'm just trying to face my fears, like when I have staring contests with spiders, instead of freaking out.

I've always hated needles, yesterday I had to get a blood test. Usually they distract people by trying to hold a conversation with you, and that works. It hurts when it goes in though, but only for about 10 seconds, then it just gets numb. After that though, I look, because I personally want to see what is coming outta my body. Then when they take the needle out, they start the conversation again and it hurts when it comes out, but other then that it isn't all that bad, face your fears head on it's the only way you can win against them.

It's only when needles are being put in my mouth at the dentist that they freak me out, but with a normal injection I try to just maintain conversation with someone, it doesn't hurt but I just dont like it dental injections are another story though.
