For some time, French students rebel in streets because Sarkozy raised the retirement age to 62 from 60.
What I dont understand is, why did students give such a huge reaction ? It is only 2 years.

I honestly don't know why they would do this since it in theory would open higher job prospects further up the Hierarchy chains of larger corporations for students, rather than senior employees sticking around for two years longer.

The French like to cause a little public unrest when anything they are used to gets changed tbh. It is just the usual knee jerk reaction.

I do think it's pretty stupid, maybe they feel like they're being treated unfairly compared to the earlier generations.

I honestly don't get why, other than what Justin said before about it being unfair compared to the earlier generations, but I think that they have no room to complain. The US's retirement age is 66 and we have a lower Life expectancy. Is two more years really going to hurt that much?

+Rep for sarcasm. :P
Pretty much unthinked and unplanned. They should really think of what their reaction is, that's just plain stupid.

Not really. It's not anyone but the protester's right to say what should and shouldn't be protested. OTOH, I think they're idiots for protesting it.

Yes, abusing the right - being idiots for doing it.

And Matty, you used a good translator ?? If so, then it is my mistake that I would form that sentence as : Les Française sont idiots...
And Jerson yes you DO over-exagerate. Everybody understod that Matty was sarcastic.
Anyway, back on topic.
France is at the brink of desturction...

Don't worry your sentence is correct, mine came from my very limited french vocabularly

It is, Sarkozy has a massive few months a head of him, there will be more unpopular decisions to be made and if the protests are anything like what has been witnessed so far, it's going to be impossible to force cuts through

If it was over exagerated, there was probably a reason why I've done it.
Anywho back on topic, and seeing how I didn't answer the OP's question, I do think the stdents are idiots for overreacting to a 2-year boost

Unlikely, judging by the fact that you tried to deny it

Its not just students, its also the people who it'll affect most, people in there mid to late 50s

Considering that I speak fluent French, yeah you may be right :)
But really, it is only 2 years. I don't think it is the reason they rebel, they just use this as a excuse :S

How many languages can you speak you so far tri-lingual son' bitch?! :D:P
Again I don't understand why students would rebel over retirement being moved to a younger age since it means they'll be in power faster, theoretically speaking.

It's getting moved older, not younger.

Turkish, English, French, learning German ( can survive if I go to Germany ), learning Russian :D
And really, 60 years going up to 62 years is not a big deal. But I overheard some talk that Sarkozy couldn't rule France well even before this rebellion thing, so this was maybe the last straw.
