Hey Jack.
You haven't given all that much information, but based on what you said, I say go for it on two conditions:

1) she agrees with it (for obvious reasons)
and
2) you're fairly sure it won't ruin your friendship - last thing you want is to go from being best friends to not standing the sight of each other if it could have been avoided.

So, basically, approach with caution. If you like each other, then why not be with her? Just go for it.
