So I was roaming about Facebook and I saw my friend had put his status as "Asperger's syndrome", saying he felt like he had it. He put up some links that I checked out and now I'm really concerned.
95% of the symptoms listed I have in some ways. Although I do not have any severve difficulty in communicating, I do notice that a lot of times I speak rapidly and have to repeat myself some times just to find the right words for sentences (I.e. I speak quicker than I think). I have very very good grades but I do lack a good social life, however I attributed a lot of that to my school situation and where I was raised and such. I don't bother covering the other syndromes but I feel like I have almost all of them.
I'm really worried I have a minor case of Aspergers syndrome. I don't know how to bring this up with my dad though or my counselor at school or even my good friend who thought he might have it. HELP!

1) This is an internet forum, no one can diagnose you here. If you're really concerned, go see a mental health professional.

2) If you only thought something was up after reading the symptom list, it's probably not severe enough to be diagnosable.

3) What's the big deal? I got my dx just over six years ago. It didn't really change anything. All that changed was being able to say "Oh, that's because I'm an aspie" instead of "Oh, that's because I'm weird."

Tbh the symptoms of aspergers can come up in many other problems as well, as Alex said we can't diagnose you, and as your health care system is different to mine i can't tell you whos the best person to go to, but i'd say a counsellor at a first glance. I had mine diagnosed by my counsellor at CAMH's when i was a bit younger. But tbh i'd say you're better off not worrying but having a check just to make sure.

Yep. Let us see... I have hormonal problems, these problems can be associated with many other mental and or physical abnormal conditions.

You have to check these kind of things with a doctor or a counsellor.

first clue you shouldn't listen to anything that guy says.

like a lot of people on earth.

irrelevent, not even a diagnosis criteria for assburgers. in fact the inverse must hold for an assburgers diagnosis. there must be no speech problems or retarded development.

I have very very good grades
irrelevent, intelligence doesn't positively correlate with assburgers.

but I do lack a good social life
as i said, like a lot of other people.

however I attributed a lot of that to my school situation and where I was raised and such.
orly?

I don't bother covering the other syndromes but I feel like I have almost all of them.
not rly.

I'm really worried I have a minor case of Aspergers syndrome.
oh please god, why would you even try to twist and turn a label to try to fit in such a miserable group as ours? there's no "minor" cases of assburgers. there's nothing minor about being nearly unable to find any work and having no social links with others, however much you'd want to.

people shoot themselves off this plane of existence on a regular basis for less.

I don't know how to bring this up with my dad though or my counselor at school or even my good friend who thought he might have it. HELP!
wrong answer, wrong and wrong again. you bring this up with a shrink. and he'll probably tell you like the 500 misfit kids he saw before you that you have nothing at all.

i'm not saying don't go for it, i'm saying you come off as an "ohemgee i read wikipedia article on assburgers im gonna say i have it it will be lolssss"

btw, you have a friend - automatical no for assburgers.

I know many people aspergers, i have friends with aspergers so yeah they can have friends. I think it probably is you just panicking but i could be wrong. You should talk to your dad or someone about this although i wouldn't worry about it too much. As someone said, what difference does the lable "aspie" make?

Oh be nice. But yes, the point uchimata is making is very valid: because Aspergers is at the mild end of the autism spectrum and many of its diagnostic criteria are similar to simply being a little introverted and socially awkward, the vast majority of those who self-diagnose Aspergers are wrong. If you really think you have it, make an appointment and see someone and don't try to diagnose yourself, because it's probable that you don't.

I went out with a guy with aspergers.

See! There's nothing wrong to socialize with them, even.

I also think I have Aspergers. Oh, the hypochondria.

I aint as smart as these guys and gals. All i will sai is when in doubt consult a health care professional like your doctor or a psychiatrist. Dont try self diagnosis on the net, it is not specific enough normally for an accurate diagnosis. Thats if all the information on that site is accurate.

asperger's is already so mild, is there even any use to sticking labels on people that don't even fit in the large-as-hell mold? why do you think it's one of the top e-diagnoses?
