View Full Version : Single sex or mixed schools?

Fiction

I go to an all girls school.
I like the fact that i don't really have to give a fuck how messy my hair is or whatever that day, but i don't like how fucking bitchy it is.
What type of school do you go to? What do you think of it? What's your oppinion on which is better?

Mixed school, there aren't any Single Sex schools in Turkey anymore.

And I think it is a good system, the mixed one. Becaus seriously, how can you live withut the opposite sex ? When you go to university, it will be harder for you people to communicate with the opposite sex IMO

I don't really thinks it makes it any harder. i have loads of friends who are boys, and i have a bf etc so i'm no different in terms of how i interact with the opposite sec than anyone else. I think it just makes school alot more relaxed.

I go to an all girls school, it's better then a mixed in my opinion, i don't think i'd manage in a mixed with all the raging hormones :P i just don't like the constant bitchyness >.>

(went to a mixed primary though)

Yeah hormones DO tease girls, but I am able to control mine :D

Still, since I don't like discrimination, girls too should have a piece of my supreme intelligence therefore mixed schools are a must :D

I go to public school, so it's mixed.

I like it, but it's all I've ever known as well.

Honestly, I don't give a fuck what people think of how I look and wear my hair, so that's not an issue. :P

I go to an all girls, I like my school but some girls really don't deserve to be there because it's a really good school. I used to go to a mixed school and I hated it so much, just because I don't like too much boys around, even though I still have guy friends :P Plus I think it's easier for me to learn because I think boys would be really distracting and stuff.

Azunite
November 2nd, 2010, 02:59 PM
I would be a caveman if girls wouldn't slow me down in terms of behavior :D.
Can't imagine a boys-only school. Only thing I'd do would be to play football and fight with my friends every day,
And girls, do you enjoy talking about the same Barbie stuff every day ?

Psh, I'd go insane if I was always around guys. Just sayin'. I like having mixed since I like having lady friends because, y'know, I doubt I'd be meeting lot in an all guy school.

Mixed grade and high schools, and now a mixed college. I would never go to an all boys school. It was much easier for me to make friends with women than with men when I was younger, only recently have I started making male friends.

Mixed - american public(state) school

Some things I'd probably do better in an all-boys school, but I like being around girls too

Lol. I like being around boys but as Laura said, I think it would distract me. I'm meant to be going to a mixed college next year though so... it's gonna be so weird having lessons with boys again :O

My upper school was mixed. And I liked it like that, actually. I don't think I could stand an all-girls school. At least at a mixed, I have guy friends who I can complain to :P

You still have mixed university to attend...

i go to an all boys catholic school. ya its kinda werid and kinda awesome. but i would be a lot less depressed if i had gone to a co-ed school with my friends because most of them are girls and i just get along with girls so much better. they are not as mean(to guys) as guys are to me.

IMO, single sex schools all the way.
People moan about not meeting people of the opposite sex, who cares? Plenty of time for that later.
I know a lot of adults said that to me when I was dragged kicking and screaming to the same school as Fiction is in now. I thought my 'social life' was going to be over, that I would turn into a lesbian and be bored out of my mind all day.
Definitely not the case.

If anything, I'd say that being in a private school makes you MORE confident about guys, because when you finally meet them, you treat them like you would a girl you know pretty much - you laugh, you joke, you be more natural. In my experience, guys find that generally attractive in a girl; that she's not afraid to be herself.

Also, I believe that people just learn better in single sex schools. We had a debate on this in debate club and weighed all the pros and cons, it just seems to make a lot more sense as girls and guys have been scientifically proven to learn and figure things out in different ways.

To conclude, you can still have a social life - where there's a will, there's a way. There are no lesbians (Kathy is the exception, of course) and overall, my school is a pretty good school.

My school has all kinds of people, girls, boys, goths, emos, rednecks, preppys, etc. But I like how there's all different stereotypes and nobody gets made fun of and everyone has fun. It's a great school.

Symone, i am not lesbian you know full well... just look at Calum's sig ;P
I suppose the only real advantage is how much less bitchy it is, which can make some people much happier and therefore do better in school.

I go to a mixed school and I love it. I wouldn't be able to stand being with all girls all the time. It would probably make me rip my hair out. All that cattiness and drama...no thank you! (Not saying all girls are like this but for the most part some of the girls I know would turn that into a competitive nightmare.)
Some of my best friends are guys, I'd miss them too much. :P

Fiction
November 4th, 2010, 12:21 PM
Lol yeah it can be very catty and very dramatic. It's not so bad now cause we're all 15 and 16 but when we where all like 12 and 13 it was terrible. Huge arguements involving my whole class would happen at least once a week :P

Plus near enough all my mates are girls. :L
Cause I dont have any interest in video games and not much interest in sports.

I see a lot of girls here saying that they wouldn't be able to stand the bitchiness of an all girls school.
In my experience, most of the arguments that girls have in mixed schools are petty or to do with boys.
It's pretty much the same in an all girls school, apart from the fact that there's no guys to impress and so there's not a constant tension on that. Of course plenty of people still argue over boys and have pathetic arguments, but no where near as much as people do in mixed schools. Whether that's just because the school I'm in is smaller and so there's less people to do the arguing, or if it really is a lack of male presence, I don't know.

I've been to both mixed and all-boys schools. The all-boys are more relaxed in terms of atmosphere in Ireland except that there are more fights, especially with me being English. But my mixed school was in England, I enjoyed it but I was always called gay which pissed me off, just because most of my friends were girls.

Having the best of both worlds. I have too say all-boys is better but my teachers are bad atm.

Mixed.

I like co-ed schooling because out in the real world, there are going to be members of the opposite sex everywhere. If you don't get used to them in high school, wouldn't you freak out? I think that co-ed schools teach kids to work with people of the opposite sex, and personally, I don't think I would like going to a school without boys. Lol.

I went to an all girls school when I was little, and I had no idea little boys my age existed until I was, oh say, 10? That's SAD. Plus, girls are just bitches. o.0

I was the opposite of you. I went to my local co-ed school until I was 11 and then I was sent to an all girls school.
At first I thought I'd hate it, but in the past year or so, I've come to realise how much better it actually is at my current school.
To be honest, I don't even notice that boys aren't there. You become accustomed to it very easily.

Also, I don't get why people associate being 'sad' or 'sheltered' if you're not around boys all the time? In school, they're just a sexual distraction - hormones going crazy, teenage 'romance' etc. etc.
Sure they're going to be a huge part of your life because when you're out in the 'real world' they're going to be everywhere, but should you REALLY treat them that much differently than you do girls? I know I don't with the male friends I have from my old school and where-ever else and we get along great.

Mixed Catholic school. The annoying douches of guys balance out the bitchy girls. Other than that, everyone is fine.

Besides, what else am I going to stare at in religion class? :P

One of my friends goes to an all girls school, and I kind of want to go there simply for the fact that I could go to school with her. But honestly I imagine there would be a lot more drama and I don't think I would like that, not that I'm ever involved in the drama anyways. :P

The really isn't more drama.
If anything, there's less. Because there's less people to be dramatic.
Of course you always get people that just can't live without pointlessly bitching about something...
But not as many as you do in state schools. Not in UK anyway.

I go to a mixed school, I'm in a public school. I like it. I couldn't imagine going to an all girls school. I'm not sure how I'd meet everyone I know now. :P I don't think it honestly distracts me, the girls are just as distracting as boys, in my opinion.

It is more of a personal choice.
Studies have been done that show that those girls who study in all-girls school do better academically. Studies have also shown that boys get more attention than girls in co-ed schools when it comes to important areas like math and sciences.

However, girls in a co-ed environment are more skilled at living in a mixed environment. They interact with guys on a daily basis, so they are more accustomed to their behaviour. Also, the girls I know in all-girls schools are usually more self-confident than their co-ed counterparts. They tend to have higher academic expectations and have formed closer bonds with their class-mates. Girls in co-ed schools are more catty and seem to be in perpetual competition with each other for the benefit of the guys.

I’m not saying that guys are horrible beasts, or that all-girl environments are for everyone. I do like guys, but I find that the environment in an all-girls' school is much more conducive to learning. I know quite a few people who don’t like the no-guys aspect, and a lot more who could never stand it. However, maybe sacrifices must be made for something as important as education. But again, this is my personal opinion.

I go to a mixed school ^_^ and I'd hate going to a all boys school. 1- i get along with girls much better! plus I make friends with girls alot easier then guys. Plus i could imagine that in an all boys school, It would be alot harder to focus, cause guys are loud/abnoxious (spelt wrong) well at least where I live haha. ^_^

abnoxious -> obnoxious
Close, but no cigar :P
You may find, though, that if guys were in an all male environment and had no girls to impress, they may lose some of the need to 'look good' in front of other people and be themselves more.

I go to a mixed school. tbh, I'd rather go to an all girls school because boys seem to be a massive distraction in lessons for 2 reasons. 1) they muck around more, not being sexist, but I have noticed that boys distract the class more than girls. 2) some of them are very nice to look at.

I might be going to a girls school for sixth form if I get it, and I'm prepared for the bitchiness. I think my school's pretty bitchy anyway :P
