Enough Time?

Ok, so there is a school prom coming up and I'd really like to ask this girl to go with me, but we haven't even talked to each other, not even once. the prom is about 5 weeks away, is this enough time to get to know her well enough to ask her to go with me?

p.s - I'm pretty sure she has a crush on me, and I'd really like to get to know her, I've done my research with some of her friends and she definitely seems like my type. Ideally, I'd like to ask her on at least 1 or 2 dates before asking her to the prom, so is this enough time (5 weeks)?

EDIT: Also i'm fine asking her to the prom, even if we don't go on a date before, so i'm fine with making the prom our first date and we can go on from there, i'm just scared 5 weeks is not enough to go from two strangers who exchange smiles often to a couple sharing one of the best nights in school life.

hmmm... I think it would be pushing it just a little bit, but five weeks may be enough time to get to know her enough to ask her out to prom. I agree that it would be ideal to try and go out a few times before asking her to prom, but sense time is of the essence, you may just need to spend the next five weeks getting to know her and asking her on the onset. Be sure to make your intentions known soon - don't trap yourself in the friend zone.

I suggest you start getting to know her ASAP because 5 weeks isn't a very long time and the longer you have to get to know each other, the better ^^.
You seem like you've got everything planned out and know what you're doing anyways :]

Ahh great...well as of yesterday we're not total strangers, so there's a plus...

Just make an approach and start talking to her, 5 weeks is plenty of time to make friends with her and who knows maybe more than friends. Just go up and start talking to her and then become friends with her then 2 or 3 weeks before prom ask her to go with you and hopefully she'll say yes.

Ah ok so 2-3 week before prom I should ask? I'd assume she's going anyway, so she would have already got a dress, shoes etc. so yea, 2-3 weeks sounds good. some guys are planning to ask 1 week or less, I just think that's ridiculous.
