Someone should have taken parenting classes in high school.

A 22-year-old mother from Jacksonville, Florida, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for shaking her 3-month-old son to death after his crying interrupted her FarmVille game.

The mother, Alexandra V. Tobias, was arrested in January and declared her plea on Wednesday before Circuit Judge Adrian G. Soud, The Florida Times-Union reports.

She told investigators that she shook the baby, smoked a cigarette “to compose herself,” and proceeded to shake him again. The baby may have hit his head during one of the two shakings, she said.

FarmVille, named one of the “worst inventions” in recent decades by Time magazine, has more than 60 million members, most of whom access the game through Facebook. Some players have found it so addicting that they’ve lost their jobs and racked up debts north of $1,000.

Needless to say, it is Ms. Tobias, and not the game itself, that is responsible for the death of her 3-month-old son. This is not the first time that a virtual game has led to murder; in 2009, 28-year-old Joseph Johnson of Chicago was charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting his companion in the head while playing an Xbox game.

Wow. I wonder what the sentence is for this. Life time?

It is a first degree felony, and has the possiblity of a life sentence for offenders with a history of violent crimes. The average sentence for this conviction is 22 years.

Thank you wiki answers.

Over. An. Internet. Game.

What the hell is wrong with..wow.

I remember reading a story about a couple in South Korea who played role-playing games so much that their child starved to death over a period of weeks.

Some people can't handle the Internet.

this has been all over the news lately (considering i live in fl that makes sence) but when has the line between real life and the virtual world of role playing gotten skewed? we may not see it but these games and internet usuage do effect our everyday lives. as for this i do believe she took it way. way too far. but where is too far? is it being late to dinner because you want to feed and groom your monkey? is it giving up your lfe so you can strengthen your mafia? or is it kill your child so you can plow another feild?...the line should be drawn where the internet world begins to control the outside world.
as for this lady, she needs some serious help.

Today I tried FarmVille because of this thread. I felt more compelled to kill myself than anybody after that mistake.

What the fudge? Seriously? Is she right in the head? Who kills THEIR BABY over FARMVILLE? If she was so addicted to the stupid game that she'd shake her kid and kill him over it, she obviously shouldn't have even had kids in the first place. What a terrible person.

I remember reading about this asian bitch who was obsessed with those little tomagatchi pet egg things. And she was driving when it started "dying" and she tries saving it but crashed her car and died. :P People amuse me when they weed themselves out.

What a world we're living at right now. The internet is a disturbing place.

Not only that, I heard one about some South Korean dying after doing a marathon of Starcraft, without even eating or sleeping.

A man in South Korea played StarCraft online for 4 days before dieing of dehydration/starving/sleep deprivation/soiling himself to death.
