Here's something you may not have known. The United States had a provisional state, the State of Deseret. Deseret existed from 1849 to 1851 and was not a state in the way that you or I think of one today, but rather a provisional state, a sort of temporary state (not to be confused with a territory), but still a United States state, nonetheless. What are your thoughts on this? And how it is not common knowledge? Here's the Constitution of the State of Deseret: http://bit.ly/d8sBVk

Interesting. This actually seems like a good idea, however, it was never really an "official" state.
