View Full Version : The VT graveyard

Before you go on thinking that I want a category dedicated to those who are no longer with us, it's more like a category for "dead" threads xD
I think there was a thread like this some time ago, so forgive me.
Anyway, basically "VT graveyard," would be a complete pile of all inactive threads (that have no replies in them from several months back,) threads that have been locked, or just very old threads. All of these threads would be READ-ONLY, so that members can still see them, they just wouldn't be able to post in them, so bumping wouldn't be an issue. This would give the threads that are active as well as unlocked more attention. Also, it would clean out these inactive threads, which would make all the categories more "clean."
Anyway, this is only a suggestion, and if the Admin thinks that this isn't a good idea, then please lock the thread, to limit spamming and/or arguing.
Thanks :)

Locked threads are already in the related forum, I still can search and go into locked threads.
Putting every piece of locked stuff into one single place won't help people, you would have to try to find a ROTW topic among the other unrealted TJsP or P101 stuff

i believe that would be a good idea...and for all threads that went a month wout posting we can have a little note at the end "the time from past post expires time limit" or something like that so that it doesnt look locked but still people cant post on it there had been discussion on an auto lock for old threads and i think it would be good to have it. just not call it lock call it "time expired" or something...just a thought...

I think it's better how it is because if someone is searching for a question, well answer, on a certain issue they would be searching through a load of threads from all subjects. When they are left in the relevant forums they can be more easily found. I don't think that having them in a separate forum would really make newer threads get any more attention. Also bumping is not a major issue, yeah it happens but it's not major and is quickly and easily sorted. :)

I tend to disagree with this. What if the OP wanted to restart the thread? There is always a chance of things like that happening, and what about the fact that if you put all of the old threads into one place, if someone is looking for a specific thread, it would take ages of page searching for one thread from the TWPR, or ROTW because of all of the p101 threads taking up space.
I think the current arrangment is fine. It doesnt take long to lock a thread.

the super old threads...from people who haven't logged in for a long time, should be moved to a "Trash" section that only mods and admins can see.
idk on my forums I always like to have a section like this

What if a user decides to come back? Having all there threads moved to a trash forum isn't the most welcoming thing ever.

It wouldn't matter if they want to post in the thread or not, especially if it's considered an older thread... they'd just bump it and it would be locked anyway.

OP's can bump their own threads ma'am. Like if for some reason the problem reoccurs or was unsolved, etc.

Don't call me Ma'am, haha. I'm old enough as it is!
Anyway, I didn't realize OP's could bump their own threads.
Also, I'm not just talking about the OP, I am talking about the rest of the community as a whole.

Like p101 archives?
I see that being more trouble than it's worth.

I suppose?
Or there could be subcategories within this category, where things would be labeled, such as P101, TWPR, etc. So that way whoever is looking for a specific thread, can just click on the sub, and then there... there's the thread that they want to see.

Just all seems a bit pointless really and would take a lot of time to discuss and sort out.

= exact reason this will most likely not happen.
logical, but it's not practical.
