No age is too late to experiment. Of course, you have to take caution to acting on that urge to experiment, but there are many men (and, I suppose, women) who have their first same-sex experience later in life. Yes, the most common seem to be those experiences in the teen years, and that's mostly due to the GUSHING hormones and undeveloped identity.

A lot of experimentation also happens in college, especially with a roommate, but also because of alcohol.

I Don't think its super late, but I think that most guys at age 17 would not experiment. But there are still who do and nothing is wrong with them.
