And I have no idea what I'm doing with the rest of my life.

Class Valedictorian doesn't know what she wants to do, how awesome.

I don't know where I want to go to school. I don't know what I want to do for a living.

I refuse to go to a college more than 2 hours away because I'm a baby and don't want to be away from home.

I've never even been one of the people who skips around from career to career. In my meetings with a guidance counselor, usually people have a sheet of careers they have wanted to be. I bring in a blank piece of paper because I have no idea what I want to do or be.

I'm patheticccccc.

You're not pathetic. You still have all your possibilities open. There are a large number of students who enter college as an undecided major. Don't worry, just get out there, experience as much of life as you can, and your calling will find you.

I just like to know what's going on before everything happens, and it's really unlike me to have absolutely no idea what I want to do.

My sister has known what she wanted to do since she was 5. I just don't know why I have no idea.

I'm just going to visit every single college within a 2 hour radius to see which I like best, I suppose.

And thanks :) I like my name a lot, actually, haha.

I get that. Just relax. It'll turn out alright.

Why two hours? My suggestion, make sure you check out some of the colleges down in NYC. Some are really amazing *cough*St. John's*cough*, and you could still make it home fairly often.

I think it's stupid to try and pick what you want to do with the rest of your life at age 16. If you decide now, you'll be working at this career for the next 40 years at least. Don't make a decision now if you're truly unsure.

I don't know what school to go to either.

I get super super homesick really easily. I love my town, I wish we had a college in it, because I would go there, no questions asked.

No NYC for me. Love it for a visit. Couldn't stand to live there though.

2 hours or less is all that I'm willing to travel. Not too far at all. 4 hours is too far for me, personally.

Alright. That's a pity because you're closing some great doors for yourself. (I get being homesick, but you can always come home on weekends.) Have you drawn up a list of all colleges withing 2 hours of you?

I probably am closing some great doors. And maybe within the next year I'll change my mind.

Not only do I get homesick, I am also always outrageously scared that a loved one will get sick or hurt, and I'll need to come home, but I'll be too far away.

I haven't made an entire list of colleges, a partial list, I've been working on it.

You want to know where my class Valedictorians ended up? One is doing risqué modeling at the moment, and the other is a logger :P

I'm twenty years old and in my third year at a junior college, I got my honors diploma and graduated in the top 10% of my class in high school, and I still have no idea what I want to do with my life, I've never declared a major since I always draw a blank on what I want to do. You'll figure it out eventually. Start out small and work your way up. Do some exploring with your interests, maybe look into something you've never considered. No matter what your worries are about what can happen while you're away, it's most likely not going to happen. I definitely wouldn't rule out further away colleges, college is also about the experiences that you have along the way.

You have to do what you think is right of course. I just try to get people to think about the doors they're closing, I'm not saying you were wrong to do so.

Not only do I get homesick, I am also always outrageously scared that a loved one will get sick or hurt, and I'll need to come home, but I'll be too far away.

That's a very valid concern. Certainly a reason not to go cross country. But I'd say that you can't live your life in fear like that. All I'm saying is take a look and weigh all your options.

I haven't made an entire list of colleges, a partial list, I've been working on it.

Make up your full list of colleges within two hours. Visit them all. See if any call to you. If not, try looking farther.

Alright, so maybe I'm holding information back just a little bit.

I've always been....somewhat fascinated with eating disorders. I don't know if fascinated is the word, but they interest me. And I've played with the idea of becoming a dietitian a little bit.

Honestly, right now, I want to be a dietitian at an inpatient center for people with eating disorders (preferably teenagers) but tomorrow morning, I can almost assure you that I'll say I'm not sure anymore.

There's a few schools near me that I could major in Dietetics in, they're at the top of my list of schools to visit.

I don't know, that's really the only thing I've ever seriously considered.

Run with it. You can always change your mind later.

Yeah, I suppose that's true.

It's discouraging when all these papers and stuff in the mail say to start planning early. It's hard to plan when you don't really have a firm idea, it's like walking into a huge grocery store without any clue as to what you want or need.

I went to College Night a few weeks ago. It was in a large room, and reps from over 150 colleges were there. I walked around 4 times, freaked out, and left without talking to anyone. I don't know what questions to ask, I don't know what to say to these people. Ugh.

I understand about the town part. I love my area I live in, I don't think I would ever want to move. As for the career, I have always wanted to either be a firefighter, EMT, or police officer. I'm pretty sure now that I want to be a sheriffs deputy for my local department, but if my hearing doesn't allow that, I would be happy with either of the other two. I love helping people. :yeah:

Just go with the flow. Tour places. The college chooses the student, Miss Autumn.

It's simple. Tell them "Sell me on your school." Let them give you their pitch. Find the one that calls to you.

You need to decide what is more rewarding to you - Doing a job that you like (and have a chance to work in low-medium salary), or doing something that maybe you don't like best but will provide you economicly well. (i prefer the first choice).
Andnow just go and do what you feel like doing. In the end if it turns to be something thaaat awful you could always change.
I wish you good luck with the choice :)

Look at everything that interests you or that you enjoy. Don't leave anything out.

I'm a psychology major and english minor, first year of university. It might seem like I'm certain, but I'm not. I have parts of me that are passionate though. There's a part of me that wants to help people, a part of me that wants to write, a part of me that wants to act, and now I've just considered either a French translator, teacher, or even tattoo artist (I have none myself, but I think it's a beautiful art).

Explore one area, like Dietetics or Nutrition, and if you like it, go for it. If you're still interested come university, major in it. And it's alright if you end up not wanting to pursue it. I know they're trying to pressure you into a choice, but you don't have to know what you want to do. It sure helps if you have an idea in high school, so you can take classes and start looking at universities accordingly, but you don't have to be able to say "I want to be a mental hospital counselor," or in your case, a dietitian. A surprising number of students are indecisive themselves, come time for university.
