What can we do to prevent people from becoming domestic abusers and sex offenders?
What can we do to prevent people from becoming domestic abusers and sex offenders (rapists, statutory rapists, child molesters) in the first place?

Should we educate people early?

In the case of sex offenders should we attempt to determine who is likely to commit some crimes and stop them before they have a chance?

What can we do?

Correct me if wrong;
When I read stories on such people (not often) a lot of them seem to have a past history involved. e.g. they were abused as children themselves, etc.

So, maybe by stopping things such as child cruelty, it would help prevent children growing up and becoming such mentally messed up people.

Of course this doesn't go for all domestic abusers, sex offenders etc. but quite a lot of them.

Just a thought.

Guest speekers (attackers- who wants and is trained as a speeker and victims who are willing) in schools around the age of 12-13, to speek about the signs, reasons and implications of such behaviours, the reason being that at that age kids are discovering relationships and are able to understand the emotions and consequences involved

I agree 100% with Symone, but again its not always their pasts either. I've known of people to have had bashes to the head which completely changed them as people and their temperments, or there were underlying mental illnesses. It cannot always be avoided and its certainly not always their faults.

Thank you, Kaius ^^
Picking up on your point about mental illnesses, it's a really tricky one. My cousin is a special police constable and she's said that they often get calls from people with mental illnesses who are hallucinating or have strange claims about their neighbours. The problem is; they can't do anything about it unless they ASK for medical help :/ which means that until it goes to far, it can't be prevented.

I'd imagine it's similar for people with mental problems that affect them more severely - until they do something horrible, no one can prove that they really do have a problem unless they admit it themselves.

I guess you could try raising awareness about it in general? Although I'm pretty sure there's lots of awareness raising going on already.

You will never be able to fully stop abusers unfortunatly because people just snap, the best way to prevent is through awareness. As i said before the best speekers are the ones who have been through it both victims and abusers, if it only stops or saves one person from abusing or being abused then its worth it
