I was just curious, HPV seems to be a common STD, which actually is more like a viral disease, more than anything.
But even though its shown as a common STD, it doesnt seem to appear that many people actually have it, and if they do, they dont tell people.

Is there anyone on here who is strong, and brave enough to fess up to having contracted this STD?

Or anyone on here, who may, or may not have it, but are trying to raise awareness of this disease?

If neither of those, I guess you can just add what you think.

Hmm.

I'm just gonna go ahead and point out that HPV is a viral disease. Also, I hope that as the HPV vaccine becomes more popular HPV rates will fall.

Having an STD really isn't something you like to tell people :/ Even if you didn't acquire it through sex, it's still... more difficult to tell people than if you had cancer (probably, I wouldn't know about the cancer thing). Most people don't say anything, and even more don't know they have it.

While I don't have HPV, I'm semi-open here that I do have an STD (though it was through birth that I got it). I do like to raise awareness of STDs and how something so little yet important as protection can prevent such a life-changing and sometimes fatal incurable disease. And with HPV being so prevalent, it's very vital that you get the vaccine, especially if you're sexually active or planning on it. Wikipedia says 75-80% of all sexually active Americans will contract it at some point...

HPV can go without symptoms for a long time i've heard so people may have it not know... which could be why it doesn't seem that widespread.
I've had my HPV vaccine so i'm safe :D

While the majority of the nearly 200 known types of HPV cause no symptoms in most people, some types can cause warts (verrucae), while others can – in a minority of cases – lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, and anus in women or cancers of the anus and penis in men.
Genital or anal warts (condylomata acuminata or venereal warts) are the most easily recognized sign of genital HPV infection. Although a wide variety of HPV types can cause genital warts, types 6 and 11 account for about 90% of all cases.

HPV also causes normal warts and cold sores.

Most people carry a strain of it.

I don't have it, though i have had the injections for it. This was done in most schools actually, so that we are protected against HPV.
