First question is what country's military? Different militaries have different requirements.

The only one that's really top of line,is the Air Force. Though Alex, the rest of the call for a High School Diploma. All of the require it to even enter. Then some of them such as the Navy have an ASVAB where you're tested. Though to enter any branch. It's a High School Diploma.

I meant countries Ronnie. :P

Also, not true. Source (http://www.homelandstupidity.us/2005/09/24/army-to-enlist-high-school-dropouts/) You can enlist, then the army will help you get your GED.

High school diploma to be anything, but if you want to be an officer or any specialist you have to have gone to college.

Also I'm pretty sure they judge your physical fitness.

To join the Army you must have either a high school diploma or a GED. You also need to pass the AFQT.

You're next step would be to pick an MOS (what you would like to do in the Army, you're job). Look at the score you will need from the ASVAB to get that job and STUDY STUDY STUDY!! On the ASVAB theres math, vocabulary, autotech, basically EVERYTHING and you can't use a calculator and you don't have a formula chart!

If you don't score high enough for the MOS you want, they'll just stick you in one. If you don't go to college first you'll be at an Enlisted rank, if you go to college and get a degree, you'll join as an officer, make more money and be a higher rank not to mention the respect.
You'd join as a 2nd Lt.

You also need to be able to run a mile, do I think it's 5 push ups and three pull ups. Theirs a time limit on these things so you need to start training!

The Army is tough, they will not take you if you have any mental disorder or psychological issue. Not to mention if you have a physical issue that could cause you injury or make you less able to perform as well as other soldiers, they won't take you.

My boyfriend is in the Army, MOS is NBC, he's been in since he was 18. E4 rank.
I plan on enlisting after college to become an MP. =)
Go to GOARMY.com and make an account. The soldiers on the discussion board would be glad to help you. =)

If you just want to enlist, you need a high school diploma or a GED. Some branches make you have some amount of college credit if you just have a GED, but I dont know if the Army does that. I know the Air Force will not take you with a GED, has to be high school diploma.

You also have to have a good record, like no crimes or anything. Some branches will give you a waiver for some crimes, but usually only if you have a diploma. If you have a GED, sometimes they wont.

also, you have to be able to pass a Physical exam and a fitness test.

I'm pretty sure you have to do more than just 5 push-ups. Like most certainly. I mean, I'm in Marine Corps JROTC and for our Personal Fitness Test, guys have to do at least 20 and that's the bare minimum. So, I'm pretty sure that 5 isn't the case.

To the original poster: You will need a GED or High School Diploma and good ASVAB scores to enlist. If you completely fail the ASVAB, they can kick you out. Joining the military isn't just a "oh sign the papers and I'm done" kind of deal. They don't want stupid soldiers.

The ASVAB is not a test you can study for; granted test taking strategies and techniques are deemed valuable and could help you out quite a bit.

Your MOS is chosen by you -granted you scored high enough- and your MOS isn't just randomized. They may recommend an MOS; but it's your choice. I'd have to disagree on the "respect" part. Someone who enlists in the military as an officer has to go through training and accepted by your recruiter who thinks qualifies as an ideal officer to lead other soldiers. Also, you need to earn respect and be able to give respect in order to receive it.

The physical fitness test consists of a timed 2 mile run, sit-ups, and push-ups. Charts can be found online of the minimum amount required per age group, gender and point scale.

The purpose of my response was to better your knowledge of the actual standards and what you can expect. If you think that everyone that enlists can pass the rigorous standards; then you're wrong. You are evaluated when you arrive to BCT, so no worries. With the proper mindset, you'll be just fine. A recruiter will provide you with the proper information you need and plenty of support.

Only if you are looking for a position in the Pentagon, a computer technician, or something like that.

in the UK the Standards are high up, to join the Services as a Fireman you must have 6 C-A* GCSE then for basic further roles 6 B-A* (English B), To be a Pilot, Engineer, Flight control stuff you must have taken a degree and also have a B in English. These were hwhat i was told at my last Airbase Visit

Yes. Last i checked the Army was the last branch of the service that still accepted a GED, and you have to do really good on the ASVAB to get in without a regular 4 yr diploma. No other branch of service will take a GED and more and more recruits have at least an associates degree.
