I'm just wondering if anybody would like to help me (hopefully...) set up a Virtual Airline. I'd like to see if some people would fly for one based on FS2004 or FSX. Please get back to me on this if your interested.

I just wiki'd what a virtual airline is, and I must say, it looks pretty damn cool. I'm interested.

Indeed.
It'd give me something to do with all this free time. :p

Well we need to start brainstorming as we go about names, whether to base it on a real world airline e.c.t.
Hopefully we could get airbus involved and make it into a HUGE VT VA with 4 pilots.

So, wait, all we do is fly planes in MFSX all day?
I would choose to base if off Continental, so our hub could be in Houston :P
Or we could do an Australian city with an airline offering Trans-Pacific flights.

I put $5 on Michael (Airbus) being really interested in this :P
If i had FSX and a gaming computer, or free time, i'd be in.

Well I do fly for a Ryanair (very unknown in Europe :D) VA and all I do is fly my B738 all day from when i get home from school. But I use FS2004 because I'm waiting for Microsoft Flight to come out next year.
Back to the point, Continental would be difficult to do because of the amount of flight hours you'd clock up. I think anywhere longer than 3-5 hours is too far.
I'm very happy with the feedback on this. Just wondering, Do any of you have VATSIM or IVAO experience?

You don't even need a gaming pc, I use my nearly 3 year old laptop which has so many parts changed on it; you wouldn't believe it.

I wouldn't exactly look forward to the prospect of virtually flying for hours a day. I don't have that kind of time or patience, but I'd be happy to do about an hour a day.
I have no experience with either organization you listed, this idea just looked interesting to me :P

You don't even need to do it daily. Its just my choice because I want to become a pilot in years to come. (2 years until I can get my license:D).
The two organizations listed are ATC (Air Traffic Control) for a virtual game which you fly. I'm in the middle of becoming a controller on VATSIM - UK. That is the UK branch of VATSIM. Two more exams for that. YAY!

That's what autopilot is for. ;)
Set it when you don't have to change heading/altitude/speed for a while then go about doing other things. Checking back in every once in a while to make sure you didn't run into something.... Like another plane.

Or I could just set the simulation speed to 32x.

That works too, but at that speed, the aircraft is too hard to control, and I believe that autopilot only works with up to x16 or something like that (May even be 8x).

Well, with 32x and very slight movements, I can fly long distances in minutes :P

Another problem is that at x32 speed, it will change the log if you want full hours. e.g. EIDW (Dublin)-EGSS (Stanstead) in real world time is about 45-50mins. In the flight log, it will clock on real world time, at x32 it will only take 5 mins and the flight log will say 5 mins instead of 45 mins

Ahh... thats a shame. I'm now trying to distance myself from RYRvirtual but it is so difficult. I know my hub very well and every route in and out of EGNX (East Midlands). It is very addicting flying from East Mids to Dublin - in one of VATSIM's most used flight paths.
What kind of flight hours do you rack up?
Malcolm Tucker
October 21st, 2010, 11:55 AM
Due to unfortunate circumstances I haven't been on there in a while but I'm reapplying. I keep a log anyway, and I do about 8 FLIGHT hours a day. I use 16x once I'm at cruisng altitude but never more than 4x on decent and then normal under FL100. I'm about to do KATL-EIDW tonight. It's about 7 hours and a bit tonight.

Thats unfortunate - I bought a new mic today instead of my built in, but it isn't only for FS but also for my online radio aswell. Quite good quality

Make a midwast hub at KDAY. In Dayton Ohio. Thats where the Wright Bros are form and I have to say it is an easy airpot. BTW if we use the boeing 737 I will fly that.

If I can fly using FSAcars then I'm in. I'm familiar with that. I use it for Aer Lingus VA.
I'm most comfortable flying Airbus A320 family aircraft. I know them very well. I'd be happy flying anything really, but they'd be my area of "expertise", as such.

Sorry that I haven't been on much, Broken Laptop :(. At least I'm getting a new one for my bday on sat, finally i can fly again.
I was just trying to build up a fleet, paint them and build the website. Not sure on what we should call the VA or where our hubs might be, you could be in assistance. With the fleet, this may be my pro-EU aspect but A320s should be just right with an transcontiental B787 after release.
FSAcars is fine, as seen im building the site with PHPVms management. Also XACARS would do fine.

Anybody who is interested, I need your Flight Simulator version. This is solely for the paintkits and models. In FSX, Default A321. In FS2004, iFDG A321.

I have no idea what name to call it! Not VirtualTeen Airlines or similar, I think I wanna keep my anonymity to an extent!! :P
Out of interest, if we're thinking realistically - what routes will the 321 be operating? o.0

Well...I think European. So maybe a german hub and a uk hub. So EGCC and EDDL or EDDM to start. This means we get the most vatsim coverage. Then expand from there. So fly to places like LIME and LIMF in Italy, In france - LFBD and LFPO ect. If you get my gist. It can be made transatlantic, if and when we expand.
Those liveries wont be ready until after my mocks - which start on thursday.:(
Bring on the JC!!!!! lol
PS. if you want to paint the liveries - be my guest - the PAirbus paint kit is difficult to use.

I can't use VATSIM, I'm limited to FSAcars (Which I'm using now! :P).
If you want, I can build a route structure if you give me the fleet details, and a base.
drac
February 7th, 2011, 06:50 PM
Well slight problem about that, will you do routings as well for FMCs. Like on the PMDG 737xNG? But for full fleet details, I want to get my mocks over with (I'm SOOOOOOOO stressed atm.)
drac

Right finished the mocks and the website is on dev. Link (http://www.germanwingsva.co.nr/) I have based it on Germanwings - a European low cost carrier. PHPvms content management system.

OK after long thought, I've decided to restart up the project. So before I begin, How many people own either Flight Simulator X or Flight Simulator 2004/FS9 - A century of flight?
Also if people have any ideas for names, liveries, hubs or routes, feel free to PM me.

Although only 14, I own fs2004.
I would like to contribute to a virtual airline, I have flown for VA's before, (not mentioning which) I have experience on VATSIM.
EDIT:
How far are you with creating the VA?
EDIT 2...
Are you going to recreate a real airline like British Airways or are you going to create your own?

Not very in contrast - just naming atm. Its very difficult to do.
Its great you've got vatsim experience and VA experience.

I have FSX. my mike is broke but I was with a VA for a while last year. USA midwest hub idea. Cox-Dayton International Airport (KDAY). Its a nice easy to use airport with 3 runways. Used to be a hub for Peadmont Airlines (now part of Us Air).
