'Sexual Svengali' Faces Child Porn Charges
Steven Demink, 41, Accused Of Coercing Moms To Abuse Kids

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A Redford Township man who has been described as a “sexual Svengali” faces three child pornography charges that, if convicted on all of them, could put him in prison for more than 30 years.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Mulcahy said that Steven Demink, 41, posed as the father of a 14-year-old girl on a website for single parents and convinced women in three states to sexually assault their children.
The mothers were located in Virginia, Florida and Idaho. The women in Virginia and Florida have been arrested on sex charges, and the Idaho woman has been convicted, officials said.
Mulcahy, who called Demink a “sexual Svengali,” said Demink used the pseudonym Dalton St. Clair on the single-parent website, and in the Florida case, said he held a doctorate in psychology, offering to help a woman and her 13-year-old son, who was suffering from “mental issues” according to court records.
Under the guise of helping the mother and her son, Dalton instructed the woman to engage with her teen by cuddling, but the orders escalated to nudity and, eventually, assault of the boy, according to the records.
If the children resisted abuse, which was either photographed and sent to Demink or streamed over the Internet, according to the affidavit, Demink would placate the children, all of whom are under 18, with promises of presents or trips.
Magistrate Judge Mona K. Majzoub has ordered Demink temporarily detained after a federal prosecutor described him as a flight risk and a danger to children. He is due back in U.S. District Court on Oct. 28 for a preliminary examination.
