Sweet autumn breeze
Pushing me gently down the stream
Of where I am and where I’ve been
It’s like a mist of happiness
Escapes my grasp but I can see
Where it must lead, where it must lead.

I’ll follow the river down the road
Because I just could not have known
You wanted me to stay tonight
Because tonight began with an awful fight.
A zephyr slipped in through the open door
I thought I heard you scream so loud
I thought I’d been dismissed from your house.

If I go and disappear
I want you to know
It was the wind in my ear,
It was not what you said,
But what I just didn't hear.

Anger overcame my light
A darkness made me shout in spite,
I thought I loved you, I thought I was right,
I guess we both should have compromised,
I think you must have said something ‘bout love,
I think you wanted to turn everything around,
I think you loved me even when I had my doubts.

If I go and disappear
I want you to know
It was the wind in my ear,
It was not what you said,
But what I just didn't hear.

Now I push myself back up,
Follow the river down through the rough,
The terrain explains to my aching feet
That I’ve gone too far but I just can’t seem
To force myself to stop right now
I’ve gone too far to just give in.

If I go and disappear
I want you to know
It was the wind in my ear,
It was not what you said,
But what I just didn't hear.
The wind dies down
And a whisper shouts
I hear a little, misty sound,
The words seem to form subconsciously
I draw them in the air I breathe,
They spell out “I love you, please
Please come back to me tonight,
I need you more than this earth needs light.”

If I go and disappear
I want you to know
It was the wind in my ear,
It was not what you said,
But what I just didn't hear.
