Hey, so there's been this thing on my mind lately about creating a new religion. I'm not talking about a cult. I'm not talking about something just for fun. I'm talking about a new religion of personal worship.
I believe that there is a creator out there. I also believe that all of our religions were fabricated in ancient times to insure order. I mean, if you take a look at all the religions following gods of today, you'll find that they're full of self contradiction and hate and completely out dated things.
Why not just start a new?

I agree with your views that religions were created to keep order, as, if you will see, all major religions have codes of conduct and rules that must be followed, yet most teach that the creator gave people free will, which is definately a contradiction. I respect what you are trying to do, but I think it would be extremely difficult. Are you talking about a religion that allows people to worship in their own way, in a way that they feel closest to this creator? If so, then yeah, I am all for it. But, like true communism (far out analogy, I know), I think it will be extremely difficult, if not impossible to reach.

Bahá'í started around 1844.
Theistic Satanism grew largely in the 1860s.
Wicca started in the 1930s.
Discordianism started in 1958.
LaVeyan Satanism started in 1966.
Kibology started in 1989.
Last Thursdayism started in 1996.

Well you see, what I'm trying to go for here is the salad bar thing. Let every pick what they want in a personal god that they can relate to on many levels. Just leave out all the hate and the crimes.

Let every pick what they want in a personal god that they can relate to on many levels.

I propose a more efficient idea: Let's move on from old-fashioned superstitions and learn how to make sense of reality ourselves. If you really want a salad bar type thing, go for Discordianism. The entire religion is, literally, what the believer makes of it.

With the decreasing religiosity of some people, and the increasing clinginess to Christianity or other monotheistic religions that others follow, you're gonna have a hard time introducing something new.
