Oh, sod it! *itch*
God...
I broke out in hives last week. I've never had hives before. No allergies to my knowledge, no new soaps, I couldn't come up with anything. It might have been from my backpacking trip, as that is the only different thing I did, yet my memory isn't too accurate. I don't remember if it started during the trip, a day or two after the trip, or later in the week last week.
It's quite miserable, and pretty bad. It started in small patches, and I itched them. Then when I finally noticed it, I stopped itching it, and applied some anti-itch spray. Didn't help much. I tried a different brand, and it didn't help much again. Then I went to hydrocortisone. Helped a bit more, but the itch came back after about twenty minutes. I tried some oral antihistamines. The drowsiness kicked in but no itch relief.
I started calamine lotion today, and it's been the most helpful, but if I walk around or stir a bit, I can feel the itch come back. Icing it has helped for temporary relief, and I've been bathing in cold water often since it helps to relieve the itching and it's better than warm water since that stimulates itching. I've been doing everything Jay has suggested, the Internet has suggested, and the nurse suggested when I rang the dermatologist. I do have a date tomorrow set to come in so they can take a look at it.
I'm just wondering the usual duration of hives, any other home or over-the-counter treatment options, and why the swelling hasn't gone down and the rash is still spreading, when I've been really good to not itch it (at least the main spot) and doing everything I, and Jay, could think of? I'm pretty brassed off with this!
