Well I finished my Segment 1 and in 6 months I will receive my license.. So anyway, my mom said she was driving by a car dealer ship and saw a 02 jeep grand cherokee for 4 grand and asked if I wanted it.
She talked with the people they told her it was in good shape, she got the car facts and all that and every thing checks out alright.
I have about 2 grand saved up from summer jobs and I was wondering if you all think I should buy this car for my first.. And for those of you who don't know, it's this:

Edit: Realized I messed up the title, I'm not a dumb ass=) Judy sayin.. My bad=/

I have it on the paper here hold on....
Alright it has 68,463 which considering it's an 02 is considerably low.

might as well throw on another $2k or so... because commonly with dodge/jeep/chrysler the transmissions drop around 80k miles...

According to the papers the transmissions and ignition was replaced just under a year ago, along with new interior. Would it still go to shit after 80k? I'm not the best with cars, I don't know TOOO TO to to much about them. =/

nah, if the tranny was recently replaced or rebuilt you should be good.

Well what he's saying is that the transmissions last around 80k miles. If it was just replaced, you're fine. My friend is actually getting a 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo and it doesn't have any problems. Guess it just depends on how the car is treated.
And cars up there seem to be a lot cheaper. Best car I can find here for that kind of money is a late 90's Honda Accord...

that makes absolutely no sense
it shouldn't be priced that low at all
i'd be very careful about it, like scrutinize everything
its buyer beware and for an 02 with low km 4grand is to cheap especially for an SUV
WHY did it need a new tranny, interior, etc....

Good post. Run a Carfax and an Experian AutoCheck, see if anything funky comes up. The GCs are good cars, my dad has one though his is top of the line $$$ model... :P
The one you are looking at is probably better because it has the 4.0L Straight-6 in it (not a v6, I-6), probably the most reliable engine of all time. Plus if it is 4x4 it is great in the snow and offroad. :)
Good luck.

My mom is close friends with the owner of the shop, so he probably gave her quite a hefty discount.

imo stay away from american cars of that era, they are completely useless.
i'm not against american cars in any way but until recently they've been hopelessly horrendous
If you've already made your decision then go for it but i would suggest waiting, saving some more money and going with something from europe (but not VW because they were garbage at that time too) or japanese (i know not fancy but it will last)

Really, please backup your statements. How so? Which ones were lousy? Why were they lousy? When were they lousy...
Dont just say they suck, and leave it at that...

I wouldn't buy a jeep ( and a damn good one ) for a first car.
Because you will hit anything in your first few months of driving and if I were you I would buy a very cheap car and learn how to "really" drive with it. THen you can have your dream car.

their build quality has lacked behind other SUVs for years, interior and exterior parts were built cheaply and assembled together using cost cutting methods. Theyve been known to roll over in emergency situations, and they arent exactly fitted with the state of the art safety equipment.
They have solid engines and transmissions but not the most efficient. When the vehicle is working smoothly its a great truck but more often than not you'll have problems with it.
This is from my experience in the past and my knowledge of Chrysler products from that time period, you dont have to agree with me.

Pretty cool car.
Make sure you have enough to pay for insurance though! I have enough for a car, but there is no way I could ever pay Ontario insurance rates for a 16 year old male. But, it might be way different in Michigan.
