Christian group Exodus International has rescinded their support for the annual Day of Truth event because of the recent media attention given to multiple teen suicides across the country. Many of the young people took their lives after enduring anti-gay bullying. Exodus International believes that homosexuality can be "cured" with Christian therapy, and that it’s possible to live one’s life as an "ex-gay."
"All the recent attention to bullying helped us realize that we need to equip kids to live out biblical tolerance and grace while treating their neighbors as they’d like to be treated, whether they agree with them or not," Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International, told CNN.
The annual April event, which promotes an "ex-gay" lifestyle through acceptance of Christianity, is always held on the Day of Silence -- a day of remembrance to highlight threats LGBT people face -- and "was established to counter the promotion of homosexual behavior and to express an opposing viewpoint from a Christian perspective," according to a manual published by Exodus.
"I thank Exodus for making this very important step," Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network Executive Director Eliza Byard told CNN. GLSEN sponsors the Day of Silence. "The Day of Truth was an effort to push a very specific set of opinions about homosexuality into schools in a way that was inappropriate and divisive."
Speaking about the Day of Truth, Chambers said: "I don’t think it’s necessary anymore. ... We want to help the church to be respectful of all its neighbors, to help those who want help and to be compassionate toward people who may hold a different worldview from us."

I am glad Exodus is pulling out of this rally.
