over priced and marketed at people with lots of money and very little sense who want to show off to people around them somehow.
If it is well made and you are actually getting 10x the benefit from it (like shoes that look great AND last way longer) then I can see the point. Otherwise go for quality where you aren't paying just for that particular name to try to impress anyone.
I don't believe you can buy style, you have to have some fashion sense. A designer item that looks great for one person may not suit another, but if you have no taste you can make some well exepensive mistakes. On the other hand if you have good taste you can look great without spending a fortune.

I mean there are quite a few things I will have to completely disagree with you on. First off being that showing off doesn't come with expensive clothes, it comes with the person. As I wear Ed Hardy, D&G, Polo and I certainly don't gloat on how much I spent on it or trying to make a statement. I just like the clothes as an entirety.
Though it is something that shows you a little more than a shirt from say Wal-Mart, but it all depends on the person wearing and how the perceive themselves and what they wear. I just am not one of those people. I just like to look more than exceptional, clothes are just one of those things that I do like to splurge on. I like to have some nice things to appreciate. It's not an ego booster for me at least.
Quality can honestly come from the Thrift Store if you look hard enough, I guess it's just how you look at brands and how you appreciate clothes, and fashion.

I honestly have no problem with clothes being an ego boost, and totally agree its down to the person. Sorry -that wasn't meant to bash people who like that sort of thing, but in my opinion there are a lot of people who think that just because they splurge means they look good, and they really don't.
Plus I think some people can be really superficial about this sort of thing, and think that is all there is to life, and spend their entire time obsessing about shiney things they can't afford. Meh, if it makes them happy thats fine i guess but seems a bit of waste of life to me.

Personally, I think that if you can afford it, get it. Why not?

I'm not really interested in a majority of it, but I do like to splurge occasionally.

It doesn't really matter to me if the clothing is designer. I just choose out clothes from how it looks on me. Sometimes it is designer, sometimes it isn't. Doesn't really matter.

This.
Also, if you can afford it and will get good use out of it, get it. As long as you aren't too materialistic and concerned with "having to have" strictly designer things, it doesn't matter what you get. It's all up to you anyway.
I have a Coach purse that I got as a Christmas present (and a smaller wallet type of thing from a couple years before) and I love them both. They're really well made and go with everything because of the color schemes so I get a lot of use out of them. However, I don't own all designer purses. I have a variety. I'm not one of those annoyingly shallow girls who thinks that anything other than designer clothes/bags are "cheap" and shouldn't be bought. Imo, that's just stupid.

People often don't understand fashion, and what's worse is that some feel threatened by it. They classify it as a superficial thing because they don't understand it. Clothing is as superficial as a book.. all quality books have depth, unless read incorrectly. You have to learn to read designer clothing. Fashion is an art, and like art it has a statement to make. Designers become extremely inspired by emotions, icons, trends ect. and do their best to express them, some in a minimal way and others make it more than obvious. Clothing that isn't designer has much less inspiration; more than anything they just copy other "works of art" and then pay cheap labor for it. It's a sad process.

I'll admit, I'm a label ho, and I love those designers. Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Barbour, and Gucci are cool.

all of my clothes are designer. this is for a few reasons.
a) if thats what i want to spend MY money on, than more power too me.
b) quite often the designer brands, take jeans for example, are much more interesting than inexpensive jean which tend to be just plain. personally, still using jeans, i will not buy a pair of $500 jeans if they are just plain blue. however i will spend that money if there is something very unique about them.
c) i like knowing that when i go out there arent going to be a ton of other people with the same stuff. last prom i saw three girls wearing the exact same dress. why would i want to be "just another person"? i want to stand out and make a statement and if i have to pay a bit more for that than i am
d) this is one of the biggest reasons for me: quality. i have found that high end clothing hold up amazingly better than inexpensive clothes. for example, i bought a $30 pair of jeans(i wear A LOT of jeans ^.^ ) at Forever 21. after 2 washes they practically disintegrated. same thing with a shirt i bought there. havent shopped there since. most of the expensive clothes i have have lasted me a very long time. so, technically i actually save money because i am not going back to the store so often to buy more clothes as they wear out.

If you have the money to buy it then why not? But i personally think that you should only buy designer stuff if they you're buying classic pieces like shoes, suits, etc.

ok so i admit it as well, I am such a label whore.
I will not wear anything unless it is name brand or designer.
My UNDERWEAR which barely anyone sees are Calvin Klein.
I love Ed Hardy, D&G Dolce & Gabbana , Abercrombie & Fitch, Affliction, Louis Vuitton, Guess, Gucci, Aqua 6, ect. So ya i love designers and brands.
Come to think of it...I got a new Dolce & Gabbana Bracelet for Christmas :)
And my iPhone Case is Ed Hardy ;P
But my favorite designer of all time...is Alexander McQueen :) so unique!
Fashion to me is way to not only boost confidence or ego, but to express ones inner self. fashion can speak a lot about who you are and your life style.
Which is why i plan to become a designer.
