Any other fans out there? Love the sport, specially when you're there in person, the smell, the sound. Just a great experience.

Formula 1 > NASCAR.
You can't compare a bunch of Americans making left turns to a bunch of people from everywhere doing all sorts of turns.

The worst part is I live near a motor speedway. >_>
Left turns aren't a sport.

Formula 1 > NASCAR.
Agreed.
I'm sure I would enjoy a Nascar race atmosphere if I was there at a race however to watch it on TV is utter rubbish compared to F1 in my opinion.

>.< Guys, this is a thread for those who like NASCAR, not for those who are just gonna hate on it, so if ya wanna talk about how great Formula 1 is, create your own thread. Personally, I think that NASCAR is awesome, and in it's defense, the NASCAR pit crews have to be a lot better at their job, since each wheel has 5 lug nuts and the cars don't have built in jacks or jacks built right into the pit area. NASCAR is indeed a sport, because there are lots of strict rules and regulations, it's actually more difficult than just driving around in a circle. For example, did any of you ever see the Shaq vs Dale Earnhard? That alone proves how not anyone who wants to can jump in and race NASCAR, as it takes actual skill. Also, like other sports, there are a crapload of regulations and rules made for the drivers and cars to make it fair, and the tolerances the car has to meet are EXCRUTIATINGLY narrow, thus the sport relies more on the driver and team than the car. -end rant

So, MLG (http://www.mlgpro.com/) is a sport and even club activities like mock trial and such are sports?

No, I don't see what's entertaining about watching ten guys drive around and pollute the world.

Indeed, it's a forum on the Internets. Take a chill pill

I would say the amount of people who attend, the waste they generate, and the large tracts of land required to construct a gigantic raceway made of concrete are much worse things than some cars making left turns.

Exactly. But the fact that those ten guys want to make left turns, they have to pollute all that just to set it up.

True. Why can't they just close down some roads like F1 does in Barcelona?

If NASCAR was so easy why doesn't everyone do it? I'm sure most of you wouldn't be good at it, takes quick thinking, judgment, strong neck etc. cause of G force.
Why is soccer a sport? Who wants to watch grown men kick a ball back in forth for a couple hours.
Nascar is one of the most popular sports cause it has mass appeal, almost everyone likes speed and a adrenaline rush, I know I do. Its a fast action sport thats also dangerous, not everyone would put their neck on the line by doing speed's past the 100's two inches from other cars that if they tap you, you could spin out of control and crash into a wall in the triple digits.
In conclusion if it was so easy everyone would do it. If so many people like it then they're is obviously something more to it than y'all make out there to be.

Stupid people worried about the carbon footprint and the ozone... :P
It takes skill to drive in NASCAR, multiple Gs in turns, cars that handle like crap, 900 horsepower, huge aerodynamic hurdles. Why do you think Juan Pablo Montoya does so badly in NASCAR? He won grand prix formula 1 races, he won the indianapolis 500, yet he cant succeed in NASCAR...
And NASCAR does race on road courses, and its actually very interesting. :)

I can barely even watch football(except for maybe the playoffs). So why would i watch cars going around in circles for a couple of hours?

Hey, a lot of people are religious, and I don't think they're particularly right. Just because "a lot of people" like something doesn't mean it's at all good. I mean, look at the Tea Party.
I simply said that, in terms of auto racing, I think F1 is superior. One could say that F1 is just as fast-paced and exciting as Nascar, and even more complicated. The circuits you see on Formula 1 are nowhere near as simple as the ovals on which Nascar take place.
I never said Nascar doesn't take good reflexes and physical strength. I'm just saying F1 takes more. You're pitting 20 single-seater cars, each with a max. speed of 220 miles per hour, going around a track with a ridiculous amount of sharp turns against about 30 stock racers going around 200 mph doing four left turns on a much wider track.

Heres another thing, the Nascar racers bring their cars to that track and race along side F1, I dont remember what that race is called but I see it on speed channel sometimes.

Interesting, but it still doesn't change my thoughts on F1 vs. Nascar.

Nascar, for me, is one of those sports that is WAY more exciting to be playing than actually watching.
For example, I find soccer boring as fuck to watch, yet I love playing it.

In cars that are very difficult to handle, nonaerodynamic, pulling multiple Gs inches away from 42 other cars....
I think NASCAR would be better if they returned to using stock cars and forced the Automakers to comply. It would be an awesome return to the manufacturing of awesome vehicles. Bring NASCAR into the 21st century. :)

Me and my dad actually had that convo about how they arnt following the stock car rule that it has to be a car commercially available to the people. I'd like it more that way.

Well they got rid of that in the 1970s, however until 2007 they had to at least share some body panels with the cars they were based on so the NASCAR Thunderbird at least looked like the real one.

Okay i dont mean to be rude but NASCAR is not one of the most popular sports in the world, its only popular in the deep south, around the world its a joke. It may take skill, but imo touring, rally racing, and Le Manns takes A LOT more skill

As of two years ago it was, lately though NASCAR has seen a very significant dropoff in the 18-35 male demographic which is huge (most of their viewers...)...
