He never saw her. He would never let himself see. In his eyes, it was always, just her. His daughter. His lovely, perfect daughter.
She papered over the cracks that appeared in the facade. She didn't want him to see.He was allowed to keep his image of her. She granted him that much.
He always saw. But he never allowed himself to see. His head saw the cracks. His heart saw what he wished to see. He was supposed to be her father. He was supposed to protect her from the cold, and the evils of the world.
He failed. She had failed. She had underestimated the world, and it knocked her straight out of the fight. Never again.
The drop of blood, the release of pain into the physical realm. The shard of glass, the glint of the blade. As long as his eyes didn't see. She had to protect him.
it was his pain not hers. Her pain not his. They were traveling side by side, down the same road. But they never saw one another. And that's how the world works.
