View Full Version : Will I be forever lonely with such high expectations?

As some of you might of seen from my other posts, I have never been in a relationship, and I struggle to communicate with girls. I think there may be many reasons why this is, but one if them is that I seem to have such high expectations. Shallow people really piss me off, but I seem to be shallow myself.

I only seem to like the really attractive popular girls in my school, and would like to see myself in the future being married to someone like this. Of course, I have quite liked some average girls in the past, but now it just seems to be the extra-attractive girls who are completley out of my league. I will say that i'm not completley shallow, as personality is still important to me. I wouldn't want to be married to some attractive girl who thinks Africa is a country or is a horrible person etc.

I really don't think the media helps one bit. It seems to represent the 'perfect partner' as thin, long blonde hair, perfect body etc. Same goes for the representation of males (i.e. big muscles etc).
Its definatly not wrong to find celebrities attractive. For me, its people like Emma Roberts, Dianna Agron, Pixie Lott (I think only people from the Uk know who she is) etc. Theres nothing wrong with liking these people, its just I seem to want people exactly like them, and I hope I won't end up only wanting to date someone so far out of my league.

Does anyone else feel they have incredibly high expectations? I just feel so stupidly shallow. Maybe its just because i'm just some hormonal teenager, but hopefully I will get better as I get older.

I understand what you're saying, because in a way I have very high expectations as well. I'm extremely picky with what I like in girls. Everything about my current girlfriend is what I personally find perfect (which explains why she's the only girl I've ever been with or wanted to be with) so you could say we have similar mindsets because we both don't want to be with just anyone, but different tastes in the type of girls we like.
I'm sure you'll find a girl someday who meets all of your expectations, I mean look at me. I'm living proof. I always thought I'd be alone forever (not trying to be depressing here, I'm just being honest) because it got to the point where I didn't want to settle for anything less than perfection. But then, bam...I met my girlfriend and well....
Don't worry about it too much, as I said before, you'll find someone perfect for you sooner or later. I hate to sound like a big softie, but it's the best way to say this, haha. You're not shallow, maybe your personal preference is the outgoing popular girls who make themselves known to everyone else. Nobody can judge you based on what you like.

Thanks for the reply Andrew! It really is good to know you have found the right girl, and even though I feel I will always be lonely know, maybe the right one will come along eventually, even if it takes ages
I can say with confidence that I am not as shallow as a lot of people, but I do feel like a bit of a hypocrite when I complain about how people are so shallow. Yes, most of the girls I like are incredibly attractive, but they also have a brilliant personality, but as Concon says, maybe I do have to lower my expectations, just slightly ;)
