View Full Version : Why isn't gore as much of a taboo as sex?

In today's culture, we see disgusting things all the time. There's plenty of bloody violence on TV and all over the Internet — hell, you could see what a person's face looks like after a shotgun was fired through it. It's not that hard to find this material. The FCC is much more lenient on violence and gore on TV compared to sex.
Why is sex such a huge taboo nowadays? Since when was a split-second shot of a nipple at the Super Bowl more offensive than images of someone being beaten or shot? There's nothing to be afraid of when it comes to sex and nudity, these are natural things that everyone does, but killing and torturing people isn't. This double standard is fucking stupid.
Parents and regular people need to stop protecting their children from sex, which is normal, and go after gore on TV instead. They just can't accept the fact that their adorable little kids will soon be in high school or college, doing it like there's no tomorrow.

Hehe yeah liked that. It is totally stupid. I remember seeing stuff like that in a computer game for the first time and it really was gross, now i don't notice it unless its not realistic (like too much or too little). TV/movies are worse for me and theres some i've stopped watching for exactly that reason. Like the movie Max Payne i hated it when he was getting shot so much, made me feel sick.
Even small amounts of blood or ppl getting hurt irl really upset me so maybe seeing it in media doesn't hurt kids, which is why adults don't care so much? With sex, girls can get pregnant and it can ruin or at least change lives in a big way so i kind of see that.

Your parents dont believe that you will be the next person to commit a chainsaw masacre but worry that you might be the next person to have sex.

I think it is partly because violence is something that often happens in the open and is glorified in society.

So are you saying that violence on TV should be reduced or censored? Am I understanding you correctly. If I remember correctly, I recall you said a few weeks ago that you disagree with TV censorship in you thread about the Parents Television Council (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81609&highlight=parents+television+council) which incidentally supports a reduction of violence on TV. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Sex is glorified too, and in addition to that, it's something millions of people participate in every day.

NEXT PERSON TO HAVE SEX?! THAT'S NOT TRUE... THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
because people would rather their kids see gore and blood than sex
Why, though? Gore is something most people won't see up close in life. Sex is something almost everyone will do at one time or another, for many people on a regular basis.

I know, right? I hate how parents will let their kids watch R-rated movies and play M-rated video games without giving a shit, yet totally flip when their kids start masturbating or see a pair of tits online. I mean, come on, that's pathetic. You want to expose your children to disturbing material that can actually influence the way they act, yet block out any mention of natural human reproduction?

Ok first of all the only reason anything is disgusting is because society has deemed it that way. in all honesty at one time sex was a beautiful thing, but society has went and distorted it's image. now yes it is a double standard to think that sex is horrible and gore is fine but to you would it be the same if we flipped it to sex being fine and gore being horrible. if so than your opinion is biased. granted no human being can make an un-biased desicion or have an un-biased opinion, it's just the way we were made.
It's for this reason that i prefer to think that nothing is wrong, if i think this way i cant be biased. so in other words i prefer to think that neither sex nore gore is wrong, the only reason people think that sex is worse is because society deemed it that way. so people are going with the crowd rather than being different. the fact that you question this makes me smile because i know there is one less brain washed person walking around.

This. Also, seeing footage of gore may very well be off putting and discourage one from doing something ill-advised. Seeing footage of porn, sex, etc, not so much.

^This, and the fact that almost everyone will encounter this once in a lifetime, they are doing us the favor of keeping our tiny innocent eyes when we were children, to the pleasurable and glorious pastime of sex.

America has always promoted violence. It's all, "Do something to us and we'll kill you".
The sex of America hasn't always been shown so widely.
Yes, this post is a joke before anyone gets their panties into a knot.

It's because of religion. It seems as though violence is all good and dandy in the eyes of the church, but sex is a big no-no.

That's only if you happen to be a priest or an altar boy.
